The "country of origin" labeling from meat
Congress removed the labeling requirement.
The shirt or blouse you are wearing is required to be labeled with the following information: fiber content, country of origin, the manufacturer and care instructions. It is reasonable to expect our food would be held to an equal or higher standard. But it wouldn't be true.
As part of the spending bill passed this month, our Congress saw fit to remove the "country of origin" labeling from meat. You are probably asking what this has to do with the spending bill? Great question.
One of the biggest reasons that the American people hold our government in such disdain is exactly shenanigans like this. The US requirement that meat list the country of origin was allegedly viewed by Mexico and Canada as protectionist. To avoid retaliation by those two countries, in the form of tariffs, Congress removed the labeling requirement.
Where are their brains? We have the right to know where our apples and undies come from but not our pork chops? Are you really OK with that?
