The gunman who opened fire near the White House on Saturday afternoon has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best of Maryland

The shooter allegedly had multiple prior encounters with the Secret Service and a history of mental health issues. He was previously detained on June 26, 2025, for allegedly flagging down agents and making threats, and again on July 10, 2025, for entering a restricted area.

BREAKING: The gunman who opened fire near the White House on Saturday afternoon has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best of Maryland. Secret Service agents shot Best during the incident, and he later died while being transported to the hospital.
