The Myth of Entitlement and the Liberal Mindset

It is Occupy’s desire to change society by what could be called intimidation -- it cannot work. Nor is there such a thing as blind entitlement. The Occupiers want to take from those they call the rich and give it to those they call the poor, or in many cases, the lazy, and those that feel they are entitled.

To the poor, no problem, as much as is needed; to the poor lazy people, no, not at all, give nothing; to those that feel they are entitled. If they are entitled, yes, if they are not, no. What determines entitlement? Entitlement in my book means something earned. It means that you put out the effort to be rewarded. Nobody is entitled just because they exist. Nobody is entitled because they are a body.

It is a fair comment to say that most of the Occupiers possess a liberal view of life. The liberal philosophy takes no prisoners but it tells you ‘you can have what you need but you don’t have to earn it. We’ll take it from the rich and give it to you.’ That is a huge mistake and it is what fuels the Occupier movement’s philosophy. The liberal way of government creates a vicious split between those that have earned what they have and those who haven’t. Of course it sounds fair but it blatantly isn’t fair. It is destructive. The liberal philosophy perpetuates the opinion that all rich people gained their fortune (whatever that may be) by stepping on people and taking advantage of people. They and their union supporters have instilled this into the hearts and thoughts of those who won’t put out the effort themselves. Because that chunk of malcontents make up the majority of society then the liberal modus operandi has many eager bedfellows and followers, hence the OCCUPIERS. The romantic Robin Hood philosophy. Most rich people earned their riches by hard work and long hours – something many OCCUPIERS will not do. Many rich people are philanthropists, giving generously to charity. Many are involved in social causes, helping the poor and needy. Most of the OCCUPIERS do not give to charity (because they can’t), nor make it their business to help the poor and needy. Of course there are exceptions in each camp – there are some rich crooks, such as Madoff and Enron, and there is crookedness in corporations, and even more so in politics, e.g. the last Canadian Liberal government’s advertising scandal, where personal gain trumped the needs of the poor, the disabled and the disenfranchised. They paid the price. It took a hundred city workers to clean up the disgusting mess the Occupiers left in St. James’ Park in Toronto. I wonder if any Occupiers helped? Tax dollars paid for it. The one and only way to change things is by the Golden Rule. What is that the majority ask? Treat all other people like you want to be treated. That is the message of Jesus but it’s not taught because we’ve thrown Him out. And many Christians are as guilty of selfishness when they are supposed to be an example.
