Until we can understand and agree on the "why" of these things there will be no real solutions

Only time will tell who is right regarding guns. I, for one, can't buy into the notion that an individual or group of people intent on harming Americans will suddenly get a conscience. Or that the inconvenience of a gun law will deter them. The families of 9/11, the Boston Marathon, Charlie Hebdo, and Oklahoma City understand differently. What is it that we are taught, or at least some of us were taught, is the necessary information regarding an event? Who, what, why, when and where.In all cases of mass murder, 4 of those answers emerge fairly quickly. The what, when and where are immediately know. The who usually follows quickly either because they are killed in the event or are quickly identified-a tribute to law enforcement. The why is always debated. Sometimes a group will claim responsibility, other times the experts must piece together a likely motive. The American public and their leaders part ways at this point. One side believes, for example, that the Orlando shooting was the result of easily obtained guns. The other side believes this was the result of a religious ideology that teaches hatred of gays and lesbians. Until we can understand and agree on the "why" of these things, there will be no real solutions.
