All That Glitters Is Not Gold, The “Sparkle Creed” Is Blasphemous

Anna Helgen, co-pastor at Edina Community Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, leads the congregation in the “Sparkle Creed.”

I've had an interesting religious history. The first church that I attended as a child was a Presbyterian Church. We then switched to the Methodist Church, where I even sang in the choir. Many years later, I took the nine months of Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) classes and joined the Catholic Church. Then approximately fifteen years ago, I became what I call a spiritualist. My belief in God, Jesus, and everything I learned in all of the religions still remains the same, I just don’t believe that I need an organized religion to celebrate my relationship with the Almighty.

As a student of Jesus, his teachings and witness, as contained in the Bible, I point to these little problem areas as insignificant. Consider as something more basic that Jesus never called the believers together for the corporate worship of God - that had no part in his ministry. He left us two tests for being on the right path, rejection by the world without cause and miracles. We work to accommodate anyone who accepts what the church does, reacting to rejection. We have no miracles such as witnessed to the person and teachings of Jesus. These witnessed God's immediate interference in our world to the immediate benefit of people. Our organized faith has redefined miracles to be what men accomplish with the aid of the Holy Spirit.

This is the height of self worship. There is no surer path to damnation. Redefining God in your own image is, without question, idolatry at best and blasphemy at worst.

Re: Brogan comment
NOTHING Jesus ever taught is "insignificant", especially in His teaching against blasphemy. The abhorrent "Sparkle Creed" IS blasphemy, a sin God judges very harshly.
Regarding your perceived "big problem" of corporate worship.
In addition to many, many examples of corporate worship taught in the Old and New Testaments, we are clearly told not to forsake the "gathering together," as was modeled by the Disciples. This is for the purpose of worship, edification of the believers and fellowship. This strengthens and holds accountable the believers, that they are able to and do accurately reflect God's Word. The church is clearly outlined and organized in the NT. It is fellowship with the World that is prohibited.
Throughout history, have some versions of the Church been corrupted? Of course. They are run by men and men are sinful- even saved men, who are saved but forgiven in Christ.
The Church is not to accept anyone, only those who make a profession of faith such as found in the Apostle's creed... Not the Sparkle creed.
The Christian is then mandated to judge the sincerity of that profession by the individual's "works". Works do NOT save, but they DO represent The Savior. We are also told NOT to judge the heart, as that ability belongs to God alone. That said, one of the reasons for the corporate church is that it is responsible for requiring correction from a "believer" who consistently rejects the laws and practices of God. And if the "believer" ultimately refuses correction, they are rejected. So, the statement of accommodating those whom the world rejects "without cause," is subjective to one's definition of "without cause" and therefore salvation itself becomes subjective.
Finally, re: Miracles.
Miracles have not ceased.
There is an ongoing miracle directly from God, available through Jesus, with the calling of the Holy Spirit, and often with the offer made through men of faith, including those in the corporate church.
This miracle is made available to everyone on earth. It is called the miracle of Rebirth. It is a miracle that is available and seen every moment of every day, by all who will. It is estimated that 25 million people every year make a profession of faith in Christ - that averages out to 68,500 worldwide each day - and That IS a Miracle !

Mr. Harris, I appreciate your story of going through RCIA (ugh!). I am a cradle Catholic. My family and I currently attend a TLM, which I know Pope Francis does not like!

You, as so many others, miss the point of, "organized religion".

We, as mere creatures, OWE our Creator worship. He has told us what he desires in this regard. I point you, specifically to the Old Testament, and to the Council of Trent.

And, regarding miracles, at the Consecration during Holy Mass, all people who partake of communion, in a worthy manner, do ACTUALLY receive Jesus Christ, Body and Soul, so WE can become Him!
