Watching “Beto” O’Rourke announce that he will be running for Governor of Texas in 2022 initially made the author laugh. How could this two time loser even think that he had a chance of beating Greg Abbott or any other Republican candidate? However, the author then recalled having had a very similar opinion when the Democrats nominated Joe Biden back in 2000. In that election the author actually considered that the Democrats had selected Biden as a “throwaway” candidate under the idea that no one stood a chance against Donald Trump and not wanting to politically damage some future Democrat candidate with a loss. As we all know, Trump’s policies had moved our economy from the intentional disaster of Obama to the strongest in the history of the world. Unfortunately, we all know how that election turned out.
