Blue Jeans as Commodity Money

One day my body stopped having so much metabolism and the pairs of blue jeans I owned, mostly indigo blue made of stretchy cotton for extra luxury, stopped fitting me comfortably. It was high time to donate them to someone who could wear them and enjoy them. Long gone were the days of the 26-inch waist.

My first pair of jeans I owned in the U.S. bore the Wrangler label and were relatively cheap, twenty dollars. On the black market, people living under impoverished communism had to pay $150 for the same pair if they wanted to own it, or exchange it for other goods and services. The proletariat were all poor working people, making around 800 lei per month, which translated into $67, at the pegged exchange rate imposed by the Communist Party of 12 lei to a dollar.

I have worn blue jeans practically all my life, even at almost 79, I still wear them, was raised on a farm and to this day I still wear jeans, I don't even have a dress, dress pants but no dresses. Love the article, thank you, God Bless, stay safe.

Oh the olden days we should be so happy I guess that until now we mostly had a pretty good life, actually we still do comparably.
My life was spent wearing my better off cousins second or third hand clothes. It was always exciting when they sent a bag or two of their clothes for us.
I was twenty six working, with a husband who made a lot more money than I but he kept it to himself mostly. So I still wearing second hand clothes mostly, I made sure my children did not have to.
Then I was given used by a friend who had gotten too big to wear them my first pair of blue jeans and they were too big on me but I still wore them with a worn out belt my husband was throwing out, and they were Wranglers too. I wore those jeans for many years, they were great on the farm and was sorry when they totally wore out patches on the patches at that point. Now I still wear my 55 year old daughters hand me ups lol I never was a clothes hanger yet I had some pretty nice clothes even many that I made for myself over the years finally I have even bought myself some.
