CHALLENGES ARE MOUNTING FOR OUR WOKE MILITARY

The United States armed forces is facing its biggest recruiting challenge since the military draft ended in July of 1973. For the next twenty years, the all-volunteer military was easily able to manage the country's conflicts, such as the Persian Gulf war of 1991. However, in the post-9/11 "War on Terror," the all-volunteer force was inadequate. It was heavily supplemented by reservists and members of the National Guard. In fact, part-time military forces comprised approximately 45% of the total forces who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as 18% of the casualties.

the US military is like a country within a country within a country .... i guess its ok for news articles like this one to appear and tell us the military this...and the military that...and the military the other...but only service members in the military understand anything about the military.

speaking strictly from the outside i see the US military as a highly internally conflicted mass of contradictions run by career officers whose main goal is to rise in rank and retire as a 5 star general or as close as possible...everything else is subordinate to careerism....so you get the austins and the milleys and the mattis and the kellys....highly awkward human beings unelected military martinets trying to throttle the reins of democracy and do end runs around the elected officeholders.

i don't respect the military and i don't disrespect the military...they are a necessary overly wasteful overly expensive overly pampered and under supervised part of the government who have come to expect an entitled worshipful obeisance from the ordinary taxpayer and general public.

but since the military is its own country within a country within a country and which has entirely its own peculiar laws and rules and customs, the military creates all its own problems and must perforce create all its own solutions while shunning any outside interference thank you very much.
