TORONTO—The new Ontario government’s plan to balance the budget—relying largely on increased revenue, not spending reductions—resembles similar unsuccessful plans by past Ontario governments, finds a new study released today by the Fraser Institute, an independent, non-partisan Canadian public policy think-tank.
“You don’t have to look too far back in Queen’s Park history for examples where a government’s plan to slowly balance the budget didn’t succeed,” said Ben Eisen, Fraser Institute senior fellow and co-author of Ontario’s Deficit Reduction Strategy Mirrors Previous, Unsuccessful Attempts.
