The purging of history, of historical figures, of monuments, names, graves, and other memorabilia has accelerated to the point that even a monument from Arlington National Cemetery, dedicated to Civil War reconciliation, will be destroyed on Monday,

Preserving History or Purging It

When it comes to history in school, most of us forget important events and dates as soon as we complete the course, pass the exams and get a passing grade. We use the excuse that life is too short and complicated--why bother to remember things and people who had long been dead and gone. What is there to learn?

However, if we don’t learn from history, if we neglect it, or even worse, change it to suit current ideologies and those in power, we no longer know where we came from, who we are, we lose that important connection to the past, and fail to appreciate the significant contributions famous men and women have made to humanity that still impact our lives today. We also fail to learn from the lessons of those who lived in infamy.

I was watching some podcast where the guest was lamenting how his kids returned from high school and when asked what they learned about George Washington replied "that he owned slaves". This is the kind of pernicious garbage that needs to be weeded out, with extreme prejudice.

Back in my day, way back when every year at school the History teacher would state that. We must preserve the past and we must do it so that we remember what was learned from each historical figure and each war why it happened.
I remember asking why Canadian history was no longer being taught in school to my children? They used the excuse that it offended Quebec (our French Province) so they were not allowed to teach Canada's history. Now we have a whole new history being taught with England as an aggressor and bad and the French are heroes having been taken advantage of? My fathers family arrived from the Boston area of the USA back in 1721 the original stone farm house still exists or did 25 yrs or so ago but now our history says the French were there and the English didn't arrive there till around 1850 but looking thru family history I found some of my relatives listed back in the 1750's belonging to some club and somehow they hadn't erased the old club off the internet and they were listed there as members. Yes we really all need to keep our histories since the main ones that used to be taught are wiped or changed unless we are taken over and destroyed then it just will not matter any longer.

Right on the mark as usual, Dr. Paugh. There are so many Bolshevik and Soviet precedents we have chosen to ignore.
And I wonder who it was who objected to a marker for Traveller? He must have been a Republican horse.
