The Battle To Rescue New Orleans

In

In 1840, New Orleans was the third largest city in the country. As a booming port city, New Orleans enjoyed incredible growth for decades due to increasing levels of commerce on the Mississippi River and its designation as the “Gateway to the Americas.”

The population of New Orleans continued to grow until 1960, when it peaked at 627,525 residents. At that time, it was the 15th largest city in the country.

Since then, New Orleans has been on a steady decline, both in economic activity and population. The destruction of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 contributed to the outflow of population from New Orleans. Prior to the devastating storm, 483,663 people lived in New Orleans. By 2021, the population had dropped to only 376,971.

In short, New Orleans is a typical majority Black totally Democratic city.

Aside from mosquitoes the size of a baseball glove, the history and landmarks of the city are a treat. I like the sugar powdered donuts, the ultra black coffee, pralines, collard greens, and the red beans and rice. Most of the people are most cordial and quite delightful.

Sure, you’ll find seedy areas and times of the day that are uncomfortable. Avoid them.
Corrupt politicians? Why should New Orleans be any different?
I’ve got Whitmer. New Orleans does not look so bad.

Mayor Ray Nagin: "New Orleans is a 'chocolate city.' "

It damn sure is.

Ann Arbor,
"I’ve got Whitmer. New Orleans does not look so bad."
Point taken.
It's been years since I wandered the streets of "The Quarter" but I do remember the 'skitters' the size of small helicopters. But that was 45 years ago and a different time. Don't believe I'd risk another visit now.
I've also been in Ann Arbor, MI...pre-whitmer tho.

I think the further collapse of New Orleans is imminent. As strange as it may seem to some not from the area, it has to (and will, sadly) get worse.
I really want to be wrong, but the corruption runs so deep it's almost as if it is inbred into the political class of NO. The economic potential of LA is endless. BUT, to get there, we must first clean up the politics of the major metropolitan areas, a daunting task. New Orleans is ground zero for this. I wish the leaders of the recall group good luck. They're gonna need it.

By Divia on 2023 02 27

There are two reasons for NOs decline. The democratic/socialist/communist left who run the city and the demographics, pure and simple.

In fairness I have travelled enough of the world, not for pleasure, to appreciate the good still left in New Orleans. It is struggling. My empathy is with their police department as they are tainted by seeing the worst every day. The police presume the worst and the innocent citizens are rightly resent the tainted police.
Those inclined to refer to New Orleans as “chocolate town”, it is best for everyone you don’t go there. Prejudice is reciprocated.
From New Orleans to the White House, political corruption in the US is rampant; the meddlers and grifters are everywhere.

Mark,
Howz this for an idea: 1/ turn off the pumps 2/ let it return to a swamp 3/ let sit for a predetermined period of time 4/ drain the swamp and 5/ see what grows?
