Dear Editor, Neither side of the aisle should be proud of the budget that was passed by the House. While both sides can rightfully claim some wins, the American people will see little appreciable improvement in their lives. The same can be said of the rewrites of Obamacare. We elected Donald Trump to fix things, I would argue that he is trying. But as long as we have a gutless Congress that seems totally unwilling and/or unable to do their job, not much will improve. Even the abysmal approval numbers haven't caused anyone in Congress to change how they do business. I have to wonder if that is the real reason for Jason Chaffetz' decision to leave?
We are deeply in debt, Puerto Rico faces bankruptcy and other states and cities won't be far behind, we have roads and bridges that are unsafe, we have a sluggish economy, gangs infiltrating our country, an opioid epidemic, and the list goes on. We need jobs, we need retraining of displaced workers, we need more young people to embrace the trades, we need colleges to stop the political agenda and divisive atmosphere and to concentrate on educating our young people affordably, we need to return education to the States and to get the Federal Government out of our business, and this list also goes on. If Congress members are not doing their job, then we must do ours, vote incumbents out because they talk the talk to get reelected but do not walk the walk when the chips are down. Ultimately, we have the power if we will only continue to use it. Sincerely, Verna Rock
