TORONTO – Overall light duty vehicle sales for April continued March’s trend of strengthening smartly, up 6.9% over April 2010 sales to 159,942. For the AIAMC membership, sales modestly beat the market up 7.1% from April 2010 to 88,044.
While overall truck sales continued to grow, up 5.9% overall to 84,262, the truck share of the overall market at 52.7% was just slightly lower than it was in April 2010. For AIAMC members, April truck sales did significantly better than the market rising 15.3% to 32,688. For AIAMC members, trucks represented In April, truck sales comprised 37% of the members’ overall sales.
“April sales have improved nicely as the market has moved into the key spring selling season, with total sales above the average of the past five years for April,” said David Adams, President of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC). “High inventories for spring appear to have muted any negative impact from the March 11th disasters in Japan so far, however it is clear that there will be challenges with respect to the availability of some models as we move further into the year” added Adams.
Thirteen of the sixteen AIAMC member companies had increased sales in April with at least three companies having their best sales month in the history of the company. Additionally, seven member companies had double-digit sales increases. AIAMC members’ market share for April was 55% - the same as it was in April 2010.

Jaguar/Land Rover – April sales of 327 up 9.4% from April 2010 .
Kia – Record April sales and Best month ever sales of 6,777 up 34% from April 2010.
Mercedes-Benz – April sales of 3,019 up 1.2% from April 2010.
Mitsubishi – April sales of 1,826 up 13.2% from April 2010
Nissan – April sales of 7,265 up 1.1% from April 2010
Porsche – Record April sales and Best month ever sales of 323 up 44% from April 2010.
Saab – Doubled its YTD sales by adding 21 sales in April
Subaru – Record April and Best month ever sales of 2,900 up 9.8% from April 2010.
Toyota – April sales of 19,327 up 9.4% from April 2010
VW – April sales of 5,526 up 25.8% from April 2010.
Volvo – April sales of 705 up 11.4% from April 2010
