Clark County School Board

Martin Dean Dupalo, Candidate, School Board Trustee

imageMy name is Martin Dean Dupalo and I am a candidate for School Board, District #G. I appreciate your time reading this e-mail and consideration for your vote for me. A little about me. Having grown up in Southern Nevada since 1974, I have worked hard to improve the community in which we live following in my parents footsteps. A product of the school district since 3rd grade, I earned the Truman Congressional Scholarship for community service and academics while attending UNLV (after Eldorado HS), which then took me to Carnegie Mellon. Now, I am an instructor at UNLV and a classroom teacher at an International school. I see many of the challenges day in and day out that have led to Nevada ranked as 50th in the nation educationally in PK-12.

I am also very active in the community, serving on non-profit boards and accomplishing special projects ranging from founding and operating (with no grant monies) two food recovery programs for the homeless and veterans, sending medical supplies to children and seniors in war zones, advocating for the Silver Amber Alert for seniors, fighting against adult moving billboards roaming our neighborhoods, researching the lack of accountability of Nevada's lobbyists, water waste, and even stopping Wal-Mart from bringing in a 24-hour, high-volume liquor store into the neighborhood. Basically, I fight for what I believe is right. I do my homework. I make mistakes but I learn from them. It is my lifelong record of public service as a citizen, a military officer, and other capacities including as a volunteer Community Development Board member for the City of Las Vegas for years. These are but some of the qualities that I wish to bring to the School District as a School Board Trustee. I don't like the constant waste, the corruption, the politics - even the incompetence of some of the school board members and their political proteges. It's a matter of leadership and initiative, not political patronage and manipulation. On the other hand, as an instructor and teacher, we need to focus on the basics, what works, and the students, teachers and parents - that is what will primarily drive our efforts to climb out of these failed policies of the school board. And should I be fortunate enough to be elected, I would change the current policy of the school board where they only accomplish policy - but no casework on behalf of you the parents. As elected individuals, it's almost obscene to see that each trustee does not accomplish casework under their policy governance as they follow an education guru's advice, John Carver, and not perform their elected duties. Casework is not interference or meddling, it's one of their main functions and yet they do nothing - only broad policy. For more information about me - my educational goals for the district, biography, work in the community, and a brief section on the waste, corruption and politics at the school district that costs us all, please visit Dupalo.com. I cannot accomplish my goals of ridding the trustees, their political director, and some of the waste, corruption and politics without your help. And should I be elected and not accomplish those goals, then choose another at that time. Again, thank you. Sincerely, Martin Dean Dupalo Candidate School Board Trustee, District #G Dupalo.com
