Millstone or Milestone? Where does education stand?
Believers are faced with a challenge to ensure the next generations are set on the path to a fulfilling life based in faith. Family, the Church and education centered in biblical values is the key to what's necessary to help youth successfully navigate the surrounding culture. Education choices are being whittled down as public schools are focusing more and more on secular social issues instead of core subjects that build character, critical thinking and skills necessary for individual achievement in trade, business or higher education… what used to be called "reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic." The essential three "R's" have evolved into STEM studies that public education has emphasized to the point that learning proper English, unrevised history, geography, civics, etc. is no longer considered crucial to a balanced curriculum.

Students' education is being truncated by public schools

How true is it that students' education is being truncated by public schools? An example of education priorities comes from the Senate Appropriations Committee spending proposal (2023 Omnibus) which is looming: ..."Invests in the education and care of our children and young people by providing $20.137 billion for Title I-A grants, $12.036 billion for Head Start, and $7.165 for Child Care Development Block Grants among other investments." Additional billions pertaining to Covid-19 regarding schools come under other categories despite the pandemic having faded into the background. Take note that Head Start has been proven to be a complete failure in its mission to prepare pre-schoolers for entry into elementary grades in that ‘graduates' of the program repeatedly underperform in academic skills. Title 1-A grant descriptions are fraught with obscure, euphemistic language leaving the door wide open to fund social engineering. What is being witnessed from public education administrators is a debilitating focus on Social Emotional Learning, Critical Race Theory, doctored history and language, and non-judgmentalism that is, in effect, the opposite. Teachers are being pressured to embrace and enforce LGBTQ and anti-racist (meaning racist) agendas that marginalize students who follow Judeo-Christian values. This is the epitome of what Jesus warned against in Matthew 18:6... "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea." ~ NJKV Teachers' unions have become the Army Corps of Engineers for public schools, putting their stamp of approval on accepted social engineering programs that are underwritten by the Department of Education. Submissions to DOEd grant programs are education's version of environmental impact statements where schools must prove they are following the current agenda in order to get permission and funding to move ahead with a project.

Billions of dollars funneled into promulgating revised (untrue) history, reimagined health courses (gender fluidity/sex instruction)

For 2022 the DOEd grant budget was $68 Billion from the total $637.7 billion available resources. That's enough cash to direct curricula toward training and implementation of preferred social programs into every public classroom, and influence agendas at private schools receiving government grants. Government money always has strings attached. This column started out as a letter requesting support for a Christian private school working to counter the woke culture permeating public schools. It quickly morphed into exposing the billions of dollars funneled into promulgating revised (untrue) history, reimagined health courses (gender fluidity/sex instruction) and reliance on STEM for advancement. Even the arts are sublimated by technology, overshadowing the direct humanity of music, dance and graphics with computer-generated intervention. The only part of human interaction that current liberal curricula has left is emoting. Every lesson, whether math, English, geography or chemistry, is taught as being subject to emotional response, hence the appellation SEL. The agenda is stripping students of common sense and basic moral values in an effort to train them to be emotional reactors instead of rational actors. Because of the administrative approach to create emotional automatons incapable of critically examining facts, parents have recognized the need to dress down and change school boards. Out of necessity they are turning to alternative schooling to give youth the foundation they need for a life that delivers personal victory as they encounter a broken world, where mentors may "[t]rain up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6 YLT

Are students being diverted to focus inwardly on emotional responses that feed gender confusion, self-hate (white privilege) and bullying by mob-like peer pressure

Are students being encouraged to reach new milestones every day? Or are they being diverted to focus inwardly on emotional responses that feed gender confusion, self-hate (white privilege) and bullying by mob-like peer pressure, which weighs down educators with the promised millstone? But it also leads youth to eventually bear a millstone of their own if they continue down the path laid for them by school administrators bribed by DOEd money to institute teachers' unions' socialist agenda. Future generations can be empowered to reject the victim mentality of SEL, CRT and "equity" (socialism's definition of equality) by supporting classrooms that teach vital skills and knowledge necessary for successful and productive lives. Education must encourage youth to fulfill their aspirations and their purpose. It takes understanding how biblical values fill the spiritual void opened by social engineering-induced self-doubt. If public school administrators are adamant in their mission to thwart youths' ambitions, overreaching all-inclusive omnibus bills that fund these programs must never see the light of day. Defunding the Department of Education is the next step leading to abolition of the agency altogether. Public education is best directed and run on a local level where communities that recognize social, cultural and moral needs set the standards for well-rounded instruction in the schools. It is the role of the Church to supply what dysfunctional society refuses to do – help guide communities to provide a classical education complimented by fast moving technological skills that can and will lead students out of victimhood to victory.
