Editor’s Note: More than a few of us, particularly those longing to get back to ‘normal’, are a tad sad when the long Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of summer. But my dearest seafaring friends, Alan and Jeanne Cecil got back to normal by rebuilding and sailing their Motor Vessel Sig Machi in Chesapeake Bay, only returning back to shore when they have to. It was this delightful seafaring couple who literally made my 2017 Christmas, sending me their wedding photo under the message: “Merry Christmas From New York City!”
Because I had encouraged Alan to attend a sailing club party in Maryland when he wasn’t sure about going, I felt I was a small part of it. It was at this party that he met Jeanne, who had attended the same university many moons ago. As a married couple, they named their trim motor vessel ‘SigMachi’ after the fraternity of the university they attended. It’s been smooth sailing for the couple ever since! In my most imaginative dreams, I hope some day to be standing on Nova Scotia shores, waiting for M/V; SigMachi to drop anchor where CFP now lives. Someday..Some Sunny Day…, please God.. Alan and Jeanne sailed metaphorically into my life over the Labor Day weekend on a Northern Chesapeake Cruise for an Extended Labor Day Weekend Mini-Loop, which included a feast of Crab at Rock Hall Annual Scrapple Festival at the RHFD. Below is Alan’s reminder of getting back and staying in ‘normal’ in his own words:

Waterman's Crab House
The Labor Day weekend extended cruise commenced Friday afternoon Sept 2nd from our home marina, Nabbs Creek near Baltimore, Maryland taking us across the Chesapeake Bay to Rock Hall (the Annual Scrapple Festival at the RHFD) spending two days docked at the fantastic Waterman's Crab House, then about 20 miles North to Fairlee Creek anchorage (probably the most narrow entrance of any navigable creek on the Chesapeake which was skillfully navigated by guest captain Eloise Hudson) for Sunday night, then continuing on Monday northward to  Georgetown, Maryland situated  on the Sassafras River for a Monday's anchorage and on Tuesday the approximate 44 miles southward back to Nabbs Creek Marina, near Glen Burnie, Maryland.  Eloise Hudson was part of the crew from Rock Hall, Fairlee Creek, and to Georgetown. Attached is the NEBO Tracking Link for Tuesday's September 6, 2022 leg of the route.. Two crew from Georgetown to Nabbs Creek.  Engine RPM 900.  WIND, CURRENT AND TIDE WERE WITH US AS WE WENT North to South IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY.  When we arrived at the Stoney Creek Drawbridge at 5:40 pm we had to wait for Rush Hour to end at 6:30 pm before proceeding the last short distance to Nabbs Creek Marina.
