Presidential “likability”

I am sick to death of the “likability” discussion. I find no need to like the person who is President.

I want to trust and respect them but the truth is likability carries no sway with a thinking person. In fact, given a choice, I’d rather they be less warm and fuzzy and more capable. Good bosses are rarely loved by the majority of employees but are always respected. Good bosses make good decisions not necessarily ones that are popular. While we are on the subject, I’d like the President to stay off the late night and day time talk shows. He has work to do. As he, himself, has said, he is also the President. No, not also, it is not the second job. It is the first. So, “likability” , to my mind, can show a lack of tough leadership and sound stewardship. Getting out of this mess will require some unpleasant medicine. Trying to be popular while administering it is unrealistic. The importance of the likability polls should be zero.
