Racing to Defund Those Police Before We Wake Up
God, for our great good, gave us laws, walls and police. It is only our soul's greatest enemy who wants to see those gone. So MANY have lost sight of that simple truth
Years ago I was listening to a radio program. I didn't catch the name of the law professor who actually said what--as God as my witness-- is entirely the truth of what I heard. It was one of those syndicated radio programs that I caught, in bits and pieces, as I was speeding across the Midwest late one evening. The talk show was a big one with people calling in from all points of our country. The guy who was being interviewed, a very famous and honored law instructor, was teaching at either Harvard or Yale. I'm sure it was one of the two. At any rate, I have scoured the Internet but still cannot find who this speaker was. If anybody out there might have a clue, I would appreciate the help. Here goes …
Crying out loud and breathless in my disbelief
The program centered on a review of the United States Constitution. And the distinguished juris doctor, with all his lofty qualifications, was yet another stringent critic of the rights preserved for us in that masterpiece. Essentially, and in other words, the guy said this ... "We don't really need a Second, Third or Fourth Amendment or any of the other, kindred, 'personal freedoms' (speech, right to bear arms, etc.) amendments/guarantees as featured in this outdated rag we call our 'Constitution.' Our leaders nowadays--as a result of the maturity and character refinement which occur naturally as we evolve into higher beings--are civil and humane enough to absolutely ensure us our naturally deserved liberties and considerations apart from such things having to be bolted down for us as cumbersome laws." I swear that's what he was preaching. My wording is not at all exact. But that was PRECISELY the gist of what he had to say. I, needless to say, was in shock. Take a moment and reflect on our current Congressional leadership. 'Civil?' 'Humane?’ Ha! Right.
The sentiment that this highbrow weirdo was so proudly proclaiming was then 'state-of-the-art' : what had been hatching in the highest minds at the most elite levels of the learned science and interpretation of human law. This guy (and, I'm sure, most of his daily cocktail club) were convinced that humankind, at the end of the 20th century, had somehow made this quantum leap into a sublime sophistication and morality that precluded our having to keep each other honest with things like statutory rights or contracts. They were advocating that we no longer require the prisons and real consequences that have always policed the disrespect and abuse of the rights of others. And that evening, as I was gliding down the highway, I laughed out loud at that idiot's breathtaking naïveté. But, had I been able to observe the words and events of what we are all watching develop around us today, I would have been crying out loud and breathless in my disbelief.
This morning a Facebook friend, a very popular and heavily followed conservative writer, posted the following simple meme: "The wolf has convinced the sheep that the sheepdog is dangerous and must be removed. When the sheepdog is no more, the wolf will feast!" I wrote him back and said, "This used to be called 'common sense' ... But I am not sure that there are very many of us left who still have a grip on such elementary reasoning." Another friend complimented him on what she thought was "a quaint and charming saying." And that was the end of it.
A little later, I got into a fray with some people on that same social networking mess. (I hate saying its name.) Somebody had posted an artificial (fake) news release of Donald Trump bragging about the Civil War he could start, and how it would compare with the 'much less impressive one' (ha ha)--the prototype of American civil wars--150 years earlier. In the thread that followed below that fake release (which included a very convincing press photo of Donald Trump staring right at you) there were commenters—plural--who thoroughly believed that our President had indeed said precisely that. At that point, I made the mistake of commenting that I did not like the group responsible for that meme. I never have. To me, they are simply the authors of added confusion. I mean, we can't handle the morass we already are saddled with.
'Common sense' is generally AWOL today
I was immediately descended upon by people behaving like a pack of angry wolves. "Oh! This is only SATIRE! We are just having fun here! Lighten up a bit, will you?! " It was those words and a dozen other similar and worse remarks criticizing me for my slowness in not seeing the humor that was supposedly intended. I told everybody that I understand what satire is, and that I agreed that everybody can benefit from a break now and then. But I went on to remark that at this time we no longer have the luxury of helping the press to cut down our President and what is left of our limping nation. I pointed out that we have been laughing all the way up to this point, and that we have allowed ourselves to lose so much of the edge we once held above those who want to see us destroyed. What little is left of our vision is in fact being further obscured and lost altogether in the redefining of EVERYTHING--from the spirit of our laws, to the meaning of words, phrases and even metaphors.
'Common sense' is generally AWOL today. Don't go looking for it. And don't dare attempt to lean upon it in attempting to predict how our society might respond to any set of circumstances. These days even metaphors become deception when you don't use some sort of real evident parameters for whatever it is you are trying to say. Our whole racism problem, for example, had pretty much gone to sleep before the appearance of our 44th president, who found he could make political merchandise from it. America was becoming almost as 'colorless' as much of Britain and Europe. Nevertheless, the Obamas could not make a college commencement appearance without reawakening the sickening racism that had started diminishing during the Clinton administration. I had at least two black friends who then simultaneously, essentially expressed, "Oh God, here we go again."
Does my citing these facts make me a racist? These days, yes. The poor man in Minneapolis, killed by the evil villain who had his knee on his neck, was no more or less murdered by a white man. He was killed by an evil monster---regardless of the color of this murderer's packaging. But now, because we have lost, completely, the art of merely thinking logically, our nation appears to be irreparably racially-divided. AGAIN. And we could have avoided a whole lot of NEEDLESS bloodshed and destruction had a money-hungry press and terminally selfish politicians worked in concert to handle this whole terrible murder with some common sense and discretion.
So, yeah, words are real touchy and important things. And the current explosive atmosphere in which we live will automatically give a precise context to our every word. So we had better very generously explain ourselves and our every move. But we are not. We have forgotten how and why we should be circumspect or thoughtful. Otherwise, we would not for a moment be stupid enough to even consider throwing away our police force. Call me 'old fashioned.' In any case, I call the babies who are calling themselves 'protesters,' stupid pirates and vandals. Nothing more. And the leftist politicians who are encouraging them are demons.
"The wolf has convinced the sheep that the sheepdog is dangerous and must be removed"
'Sixty Minutes' conducted an interview with George Soros several years ago. George was asked if he believed in God. He laughed like he was looking at baby pictures, and chuckled out the word, "No!" As I have said before, fifty years ago, when we hippies were chasing after rock 'n roll, drugs and free love, people like George and Hillary and, later on, Barack, were quietly watching our unbelievable naïveté as they said to themselves, "I can use all of this!" While most of a tv and Internet-mesmerized America was chasing the god of their pleasures and appetites, a very real satan-the-devil was laboring hard to dissolve and rewire every good and necessary thing our forefathers had secured for us and our pampered and entitled progeny with their blood--their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
Today, when someone offers the notion that, "The wolf has convinced the sheep that the sheepdog is dangerous and must be removed," hardly anyone completes that thought by stating the undeniable and adamant reality that, "When the sheepdog is no more, the wolf will feast!" Most everything that we used to file under "common sense" has today become nothing more than "a quaint and charming saying." When people are called out for untrue, misleading or outrageous--even damaging--statements they were "just kidding" and the person calling them out is criticized for being 'racist' or having no sense of humor. To amuse themselves with "humor" they ridicule, criticize and attack our President, who is risking everything he's worked hard for to make our country great again.
These are serious times, and it is time to be serious. The fate of our nation and all of our freedoms and protections are IN JEOPARDY. "Woe unto you that laugh now! For ye shall mourn and weep" (Luke 6:25) God, for our great good, gave us laws, walls and police. It is only our soul's greatest enemy who wants to see those gone. So MANY have lost sight of that simple truth.
