Rights are protected for the chosen few

So, in California, a State with a high population of immigrants (both legal and illegal), when you get a driver's license, you will be automatically registered to vote. The rationale is that voting is a "right" and as such should not require action on the part of the individual even though it is a simple process.

We have a right to an education but there are rules and actions required. We have a right to marry but there are rules and actions required. We have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness but those rights are not unlimited and not without responsibilities. There are many who want individuals to have permits and to register their firearms even though ownership of them is a right bestowed by the Constitution. The Constitution provides for there to be immigration rules established by the Federal Government. Yet there are some people who want to ignore the rules and withhold enforcement. Seems like rights are protected for the chosen few who, it could be argued, are not even entitled to the rights of citizenship. Lois Virgo
