The fact that these stories appear on any legitimate media programming shows why it is easy to manipulate the public. Anyone who is awake and aware understands that we are losing our liberties, our reputation, our ethics, our good credit, and our pride. There are serious issues facing us and serious news to investigate and report. But investigating the hard news would require admitting to the problems and not shielding those at the root. It is hard work. Reporting on the sleazy, troubled sports and entertainment stories is cheap and appeals, unfortunately, to a large portion of our society. It would be refreshing to watch an evening news report or open a newspaper with only serious news. I for one will turn off the TV every time I am subjected to stories about people who don't deserve or warrant a second of my life. MaryAnn Lewis
