The A&E network and the Duck Dynasty family have started a conversation in this nation that is long overdue. Hopefully, the conversation can be civil and respectful.
There is the obvious discussion surrounding free speech and the expression of one's religious views. Then there is the right of the business to draft their own rules as long as they don't infringe on people's rights. The main point here being whether or not A&E had spelled out the rules in their contract with the Robertson family.
It continues to amaze me that freedom of religion is not equitable in the United States, the birthplace of individual freedoms. Nor is freedom of speech. Phil Robertson does not have the same freedom as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Or is it that the freedom is only sanctioned when it is a popular belief? Or only if that belief is presented in a politically correct and government approved format?
It seems to me that the offended always have the option of using their remote controls to change channels.
If enough folks do so, the show is cancelled. If they don't, the show remains - due to popular demand.
