The Second Amendment: Why America Has It And Why It Is So Important

The Second Amendment: Why America Has It And Why It Is So ImportantWith the passage in the House this past week of the so called “Assault Weapons Ban” bill we are seeing those who lust for unlimited power over the vast majority of American citizens take one more critical step toward achieving that end. We keep hearing that the Senate will not go along and also pass this bill and, hopefully, that will be the case. However, do we know that for sure that we can count on the Senate or are we being intentionally misled in order to reduce our resistance to its passage? There is no question but that America, today, is at a crossroads and is under very serious attack by those who seek unlimited power. As such, defending the Second Amendment has taken on an enormous importance for all of us who cherish freedom.

“Gun Control” is now and always has been about “Control”

Recently we have been seeing articles in our more conservative media supporting the Second Amendment. Unfortunately, too many of these articles tend to be defensive in nature and often written in response to the claims of those promoting “gun control” for supposed reasons of safety. “Gun Control” is not now nor has it ever has been about safety. “Gun Control” is now and always has been about “Control”, the control of the American people by those in government. If we are to retain our freedom in America we must retain the Second Amendment and do everything that can be done legally to combat and defeat those who wish to take it away. All too many “Pro Gun” authors typically ignore, avoid or are not fully aware of the real purpose for the existence of the Second Amendment and its inclusion in The US Constitution. They tend to focus on the individual’s right to defend oneself from other individuals that might initiate the use of force against them. Although having the ability and means for self-defense is certainly important, that was not the primary reason that the Second Amendment was written and included in our Constitution. In the late 1700s when the Constitution was being written, those drafting it had recently fought and won a war against an over reaching government from abroad. As such, they were attempting to create something entirely new in the history of the world which was a government with the primary purpose of using a minimum of force toward the end of protecting the people, not the government. Prior to this, all governments in the history of the world had operated on the basis of using force to achieve the ends of those in power and, unfortunately, that is still the case, today, throughout most of the world.

Right of people to bear arms not to be infringed

For anyone that might not be as familiar with the US Constitution as they might be, the American Constitution contains virtually no Laws. Even the most fundamental of laws, the prohibition of one person killing another, is nowhere to be found in the US Constitution. In essence, the Constitution defines the structure, operation and limitations of our federal government and almost entirely leaves the writing, passage and enforcement of Laws to the various States. It does, however, impose limitations on the States by guaranteeing certain Rights that the States are not allowed the power to violate, the Second Amendment being one of these limitations as follows:

Article II

Right of people to bear arms not to be infringed A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed. What exactly, did the drafters of our Constitution mean by the term “well regulated militia”? A quotation by “Google” states the following: “During the American Revolution, the militia provided the bulk of the American forces as well as a pool for recruiting or drafting of regulars…” Clearly, the drafters of the Constitution knew the value of having citizens that were equipped and trained to fight should that become necessary. Had the people of the thirteen colonies not been armed and willing to organize to fight we would likely still be a part of the British Empire.

Second Amendment was meant to leave citizens with the ability to defend themselves against unlawful violence

Another statement by “Google” discusses the subject as follows: What was the original intent of the 2nd Amendment? Abundant historical evidence indicates that the Second Amendment was meant to leave citizens with the ability to defend themselves against unlawful violence. Such threats might come from usurpers of governmental power, but they might also come from criminals whom the government is unwilling or unable to control. After the British were defeated by a rather loose organization of thirteen independent colonies, our founders set about to form a new nation. In doing so they were certainly aware that the colonies needed to be formally united and the citizens of all of them must have the right to be armed guaranteed to them. The fact that the right to keep and bear arms was third only to the right of freedom of religion and the right of freedom of speech, should certainly be recognized as how very important this right was to our founders and, obviously, still is today. While they clearly had no intention of actually governing said states, our founders did see the need to impose certain limits on the powers that those governing the states might attempt to assume. As our founders could not decide who might serve in the governments of the various states they could and did make the decision that no state government would have the power to disarm its citizens. This was not done in order to promote the use of force against any of our levels of government but rather to put those in government “on notice” that they did not hold a monopoly on the means of force. That “balance of powers” has served us very well for over 200 years.

A political party is not supposed to be an actual part of our government

Readers should take special note of the second quotation from Google (above) and their use of the phrase “…usurpers of governmental power…” This was certainly one of the serious concerns of the drafters of the Second Amendment. Usurpers of government power were a concern to them, then, and has progressed to the point now of being the most serious threat that Americans have ever faced. We are currently facing the worst usurpation of government power that has ever been allowed to occur in the nearly 250 years of our nation’s existence and it is being orchestrated by a number of the leaders (bosses) of one of our two primary political Parties; The Democrats. A political party is not supposed to be an actual part of our government. Such parties are supposed to exist as political organizations that work to get their members elected and or appointed into government and to attempt to influence them once they are there. However, for a number of years, now, the Democrat Party has, on a regular basis operated as though they were actually part of our government exercising governmental powers at their will. Today, Democrats represents the greatest concentration of “usurpers of governmental power” that has ever existed in our nation’s history! The “taste” of excessive governmental power that the Democrat “bosses” have had over the past twenty or so years has resulted in their only lusting for more of the same. There is little doubt in the author’s mind that this “lust’ will continue to grow and they will keep trying to increase their level of control over the citizens of our country. Even at present, the expansion of excessive governmental power is close to reaching the point where their use of outright force will become necessary in order to achieve their objective of more and more power. This is exactly why these Democrat “bosses” continually attack the Second Amendment and push to eliminate it. If we allow these “thugs” to disarm us, individual freedom will then quickly cease to exist in America and our country, as we know her, will be over.
