KISSING off speculation on Obama’s birth certificate

Not since Yukon Gold Rush days has speculation been as rife since Barack Obama’s birth certificate became an issue. There’s a paper chase trying to pinpoint precisely where Barack came into this world, giving Barack’s baby diaper days a life of their own on the Worldwide Net. Caught up in the paper chase, Canada Free Press (CFP) was meandering off track until faithful readers brought us back into line.

“I am definitely not an Obama supporter in any way, shape or form, so please do not misinterpret my questions, Glenn D, wrote CFP today. “After a bit of asking around, and doing a bit of searching myself, I found reference to the 14th amendment, which states: “Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” Glenn’s email was sent in response to Las Vegas-based CFP columnist Steven Miller’s two articles on the subject of Obama’s birthplace. The former Las Vegas City Councilman, who writes internationally syndicated columns on organized crime and political corruption for Rick Porrello’s AmericanMafia.com, wrote about Obama: “Barack Obama is not legally a US natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth; a law that was in effect between December 24, 1952 and November 13, 1986, when the law was changed,” Miller wrote. “However, the new law did not preempt the former law in the cases of those born between the above listed dates when the old law was in effect. “Therefore, Senator Obama may very well be disqualified as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming Presidential campaign.” (Readers can see both Miller columns here and here). Glenn, who made it clear he would not like to see Obama elected, wrote “I am simply wondering now about the facts regarding this matter.” “So if he were born in the US, according to the 14th amendment, and notwithstanding your statements on the above mentioned article, it would seem that he is in fact a “born” citizen of the US. Unless, of course, he was not born in Hawaii as I have read. “If you don’t mind, could you please clarify so that I may better understand”? A reasonable request by anybody’s standards. Joni, in Salt Lake City, wrote “Barack Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961. Hawaii became a State in 1959…2 years before Barack Obama was born. It doesn’t matter where his parents were born, he’s a US BORN citizen.” Elliot from Kansas wrote, “This article clearly demonstrates the difference between gossip and journalism. A responsible journalist would do his/her research and realize that Obama was born in Hawaii, which would automatically make him a United States Citizen. There is no naturalization process involved and no violation of US election law. He was born a normal US citizen just as you and I.” For the record, CFP believes that Barack Obama could end all speculation about his place of birth by producing a copy of the birth certificate he referenced in his book, Dreams of My Father, autographed copies of which are still selling on for $375.00 a piece on www.amazon.com, even as his new book is about to be launched. CFP believes it matters not whether Obama’s parents were legally wed at the time of his birth. CFP believes that the only thing that truly matters is whether or not Obama was born in the USA because if he were born elsewhere, he would be disqualified to run as president. But if Obama was not born in the USA, it must be a matter of proof and not speculation. Perhaps when it comes to Obama’s birth certificate, the old-fashioned KISS (Keep it simple, stupid) mandate should be resurrected.
