Dub and Deb

'Ridin Out The Recession With Dub and Deb in “Miz Judi’s Kitchen'! Note to Readers: There are a few things that Dub doesn't know but one thing he does know is that the word 'Riding' (as in Riding Out the Recession) is spelled with a 'g' at the end. But Dub not only walks the walk, but speaks like he is: down home, true blue, and plain speakin' country folk. Dub and Deb are both native Floridians, live in Central Florida, and run a small business as well. They have five children, and seven grandchildren. Both love to cook, love to laugh, grow a garden, and generally try to "aggravate" most anyone around them basically...all in good fun, of course!

Bonnie’s Apple Bread

Ya’ll ready to “Fire Off the Cookstove” this mornin? Me too! Our first recipe comes from a “young lady” up in North Carolina, and her name is Bonnie! Now Bonnie it seems, may be a little like ole Dub…she just might like to talk! Though one major difference in them both liking to talk, (Dub calls it “just expressin’ myself”), is that Bonnie isn’t just talking to be talking. When Bonnie talks it will behoove you to listen, because when she’s talking to ya’, she’s teaching at the same time.

Dub’s Two-Cents Worth

Good morning! I was reading, yes to the disbelief of many who know me, actually I can "reed and rite," some news articles from several different media outlets, "You gotta' keep up with the competition," love ya', Judi! Honestly though, I do like to read from some of the "liberal media" in regards to what they too are saying in regards to "news" today, and frankly, it sometimes (9 outta' 10) amazes me in their statements and beliefs. This morning being no different, I'm sad to say.

Planting your own Garden

Welcome back to the Coverin the Bases section of Ridin Out the Recession with Dub and Deb! Deb and I have so far discussed food storage. In this we talked about the pro and con issues of home canning, and the use of the Foodsaver Vacuum Sealing System. Both these types of food storage Deb and I find very beneficial and work really, really well for our needs. If you haven't tried them yet, we both highly recommend you look at one, and if at all possible, both systems.

Dub: “Red” and One of Life’s Lessons

Good morning everyone and welcome once more to Miz Judi's Kitchen. We hope all is well with each and every one of you! Thank you for stopping by today. "Red" and One of Life's Lessons: I'm going to tell ya'll a little story this morning that Deb and I talked about just yesterday. It involves our youngest son Mark, the very same who broke all his Granny's coke bottles in an earlier story of Deb's, and a child's inquisitiveness. You think they're kinda' half listening, but in fact they have you tuned in! That is unless it's chores.

Reader comments on Covering the Bases

From: True Patriot Thanks so much. This is very helpful. We all certainly need to begin stocking up. I have no doubt we may be facing food riots very soon.

The stores are shelving smaller sizes and higher prices on most everything.

Thanks for all of your tips.

Dub’s Pinto’s:

These can be eaten plain, but I like mine served over rice with a slice of onion on the side and cornbread too! Chili sauce is good over these, but my favorite, and don’t knock it till you’ve tried it seriously, the flavors go really well together…pour sweet pickle juice over them, um um! Again just try that, ole Dub won’t steer ya wrong, just look at my picture for God’s sake!! Git my drift? Okay then, let’s eat!!

Hello again, and welcome back to the Coverin’ the Bases section of Ridin’ Out the Recession! We hope all are well, and ready to teach, learn, and share our ideas in regards to living in today’s tough economy. Last time we talked about canning and the benefits it provides. This once again came from a checklist Deb and I made when our business slowed way--way down! It is a list we found crucial in regards to Ridin’ Out the Recession, and we have tried to prepare in whatever way we could to have essentials for our family in case of really hard times.

Sissy’s Oven Pot Roast

This next recipe is from Dub’s sister Marie, whom they refer to as “Sissy.” It’s kinda funny seeing Dub and his brother, who is also a pretty good sized fellow, calling Marie, “Sissy” when she’s around.

Patty’s “No Peek” Chicken

Patty is our sister-in-law. She’s married to Dub’s brother. Patty’s very outgoing, very friendly, meets no strangers, and is very funny…loves to have a good time. On top of these quality traits…she’s a very good cook as well! Dub’s hollerin’ that’s enough, you’re gonna give her the big head! I call it…credit where credit’s due!
