The drive to find novel energy storage systems for all the "alternative" energy produced from wind-turbines and solar (photovoltaic) systems is fostering the most bizarre ideas.
Never mind! Soon it may not matter anymore what you say or write as science will be able to detect what you TRULY THINK, just by looking at your brain activity! Now, think about that for while!
Rock hounds" (like myself, in younger years) are searching the ground for any type of crystals, like crystals of quartz, that are found in many places on earth. For example in New York State they can occur as "Herkimer diamonds", or in the Alps, occasionally as brown or nearly black appearing "smoky quartz," also known as "morion," and so on.
My Dear Aunt Climate,
First of all, somewhat belatedly, my best wishes for your continued happiness and prosperity in this new year of The Lord, 2017! And when you change your attire with the seasons, from white to brown, to green, and back again to white, please be mindful of and stay within accustomed-to conventions.
The town of Davos-Klosters, population 11,000, in the Swiss Canton of Graubünden is famed for its sport attractions, especially downhill ski-slopes and important downhill ski-race competitions like the Parsenn Derby. The top speeds in such events would result in apprehension and fines by any highway traffic cop in North America.
Jane's still enamored by "good looking liberals" but appears to have lost her previous penchant for "high hopes that [Prime Minister] Justin Trudeau's Liberal government would follow through on commitments made there [in Paris, 2015],"
It may not work everywhere but in Northern Ireland it appears to be a fact. As Eric Worrall reports, there "Businesses that signed up [to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)] could receive £160 from the government for every £100 they spent on fuels, such as wood pellets, burnt in biomass boilers. As people spotted the gains to be made, there was a surge in applications and costs spiralled."
As of January 1st, 2017, consumers of carbon-based energy in Ontario are forced to pay for a “Cap and Trade” surcharge of approximately 5%. This additional levy on electricity, gasoline, diesel, and natural gas will reverberate throughout the province’s economy and raise all prices and costs, including food, heating, commuting, etc.
Ever tried to swim in a Floridian swamp, no? Not even dangled your toesies in one? Neither?
Good choice! There are "crocs" (including gators) lurking beneath the water's surface, invisible to your eye. And they are hungry -- all the time! Even being on the shore and close to the water's edge may be challenging your fate.
... or, if you prefer, E, Ey, Hir, Per, Ze, Zir, or whatever I may have missed in my attempt to use a politically-correct gender-neutral verbiage. As you (Ze) may know, it's the new "in-thing," come hell or high water.
The CBC reports: “Armed with the support of human rights and civil liberties organizations, Google is at the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) on Tuesday to appeal a ruling it says poses a threat to freedom of expression and access to information both in Canada and around the world.”
All life forms (on earth) rely on carbon (chemical symbol "C") for their existence and functioning. From miniscule bacteria to giant sequoia trees, from worms to whales, no life on earth including humans would exist without "carbon" in various combinations with other elements, most notably hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorus.
Geography that you may have learnt in school may no longer apply. The Pacific island nation of Fiji will have a new "capital" about this time next year (2017), namely the city of Bonn, Germany.
Remember the seaquake that sent flood waves of up to 25 ft. (~ 9 m) over the shores of the city of Fukushima, Japan, in 2011. Those tsunami waves flooded the lower parts of the local nuclear power plant (where, not so wisely, the emergency generators for critical cooling were located) and, eventually, caused a partial meltdown of some of the plant’s reactors.
As the Daily Mail reports: "SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, wants to send a MILLION people to live in glass domes on Mars within '40 to 100 years'." I hope Elon lives long enough to partake of his dreams himself. What better way to get into the (future) history books than "leading the charge" oneself.
Recent intelligence suggests that rutabagas may be on the war path. But don't worry, the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is standing by to defend you.
