On the Seed Scene

Dr. Charles Mayo (1865-1939), organizer of Rochester’s famed Mayor Clinic that his father had founded, was also a keen gardener. His prayer as such seems appropriate at this time:

Don Whittman, Cliff Fletcher and the Maple Leafs

Hate to start any column about anything political, but I just finished watching the South Carolina Democratic debate on the tube last night . All I can say is that I truly hope that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama keep knocking the hell out of each other and give the voters a chance to see that the third person on the stage (I don't count Wolf Blitzer) John Edwards is head and shoulders above those two twits in ideas, sincerity and charisma. He’s truly the only one up there that appears to look and sound presidential. I really think he is the only Democratic candidate that will give John McCain a run for his money.

Ontario Cities Have Highest Property Taxes

A new report out of Edmonton shows that Toronto takes the dubious honour for having the highest property taxes in Canada. However, a few other Ontario cities place just behind it at the top of the list. Beleaguered tax-paying homeowners in Ontario have suffered from high rates for years, yet they are still facing large rate hikes this year. The Edmonton report is proof enough that municipal governments should hold the line on spending and give taxpayers a break.

Hillary - Judged by the company she keeps

Hillary ClintonLAS VEGAS - The Nevada caucus is over, but several issues emerged that help define the woman selected to be the state Democratic Party's nominee. First and foremost, it took dozens of translators stationed in the caucus locations to help the majority of Clinton supporters understand speeches and fill out their ballots. These "voters" who could neither speak nor write in our nation's language were asked (in Spanish) to sign a document attesting to the fact that they were in the United States legally. After obediently doing so, the majority voted for Hillary Clinton at caucus locations within the hotels where they're employed.

Thompson is in Trouble And so are ALL other Republicans

Fred Thompson was drafted by the conservative base of the Republican Party for two very simple reasons. • The Republican National Committee offered no other viable conservative choice • Only a true traditional conservative can challenge today’s Democratic Socialists

Keeping American guns out of Canada

In less than a week, two innocent Toronto men were shot to death in the city that was once known as Toronto the Good. First, 42-year-old John O’Keefe was shot while returning from a few drinks at his favourite pub. As he was walking past a Yonge Street strip club, a couple of patrons that had been ejected from one of A-Rod’s favourite haunts fired in an attempt to hit the club’s bouncer. Two arrests were quickly made.

Race to the Moon or Race to Mars

The Bush Government has of late been redirecting NASA’s efforts towards heading back to the Moon. But to many people, the term ‘heading back’ is exactly the problem. We’ve been there, and while everyone wants to get to Mars, the Moon is not the place to visit on the way.

The Russian Iran Alliance

Recently, three interconnected events have occurred.  One is Russian President Vladimir Putin’s reinstatement of the “cold war” against America while openly siding with Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In actuality this alliance has lasted for years with Putin only recently indicating dissatisfaction with America as the reason for the alliance.
