Seat Ibiza

I cannot believe that 30 years has passed. That’s how long ago the Seat Ibiza was introduced. And boy how things have changed.

Youth Shows But Half

Comedian Bill Cosby once quipped, “When you become senile, you won’t know it.” I chuckled upon first hearing it, but this past weekend, having doddered another year deeper into my seventh decade of troubling the earth, the quip took on a somber tone.

Benghazi Bombshell: Clinton State Department Official Reveals Details of Alleged Document Review

As the House Select Committee on Benghazi prepares for its first hearing this week, a former State Department diplomat is coming forward with a startling allegation: Hillary Clinton confidants were part of an operation to “separate” damaging documents before they were turned over to the Accountability Review Board investigating security lapses surrounding the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya.

EU Dismantles Climate Commission Amid Economic Struggles

European Union leaders announced they will be consolidating energy and environmental goals under a new commissioner, effectively axing the intergovernmental groups’ climate arm as green policies are making it harder for citizens to pay their power bills. “The EU is signalling a historical shift away from its green priority towards a new focus on economic recovery, competitiveness and energy cost,” Dr. Benny Peiser, director of the Global Warming Policy Forum, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “This policy shift has been in the making for the last two years, but only now has Europe new leaders who are no longer obsessed with climate change,” said Peiser, who is based in the UK. --Michael Bastasch, The Daily Caller, 12 September 2014

Fight Liberal Progressivism

It breaks my heart to see how "political correctness" is infiltrating our institutions in government, education, jurisprudence, media and industries.

The United States Returns to Iraq

President Obama's September 10, 2014 address to the American nation regarding the new US strategy against ISIS leaves many issues unclear, chief among them, what underlies the change in US policy regarding the extremist organization.

Crony Capitalism or Just Big Government Growing More Government?

If there was any one issue that candidate Barack Obama embraced and promised to pursue if he became president it was the promise of an open and transparent government. The country expressed its support of this promise by a wide margin. But a recent Wall Street Journal article, “FCC Encourages Media Companies to Provide Confidential Complaints on Time Warner Cable Purchase," uncovers how far this Administration and the FCC have drifted from that promise. The rent seekers have come running.

The Downside of Slanted News Reports

The Downside of Slanted News Reports
There was a time when most Americans believed news reports and many even respected members of the news media. Indeed, the news media was almost regarded as another branch of government, described as the “fourth estate.” Neutral reporting of events helped citizens make informed choices about politicians, proposed legislation, and governmental endeavors. But that was long ago.

Uh oh: Middle East allies Obama expects to fight ISIS on ground don't trust him

Many of us focused Wednesday on President Obama’s insistence that the United States will provide air power only in the fight against ISIS, and will expect other nations to do the fighting on the ground. We talked a lot about how foolish it is to concede such an important strategic option to the enemy before the fighting even starts, and worse yet, to publicly tell the enemy you’re doing so.

Obama and the ISIS Threat

Obama and the ISIS Threat
If my memory serves me right, I first stumbled upon the term demagogue circa 1959 at the time when Cuba's communist dictator Fidel Castro first came into power. After one of Castro's unending speeches back in the day, I remember my father referring to the dictator as the quintessential demagogue, which immediately triggered my curiosity as to the meaning of this word.

Scotland Teeters on the Edge

On Thursday Scotland (including 16-17 year-olds) will go to the polls to vote on what amounts to full sovereign independence from the rest of the United Kingdom which would presumably, amongst more serious matters, necessitate a full re-design of the (rest of the) Union Jack flag.
