The voting system in the United States

Dear Editor, Jill Stein was “on to something” regarding the security of our 2016 election. However, it really wasn’t what she thought it was. With just the limited recount in 2 states we saw the largest urban city (Detroit) have difficulty in reporting and balancing their vote tally. It appears that there were more votes than ballots given out. Isn’t anybody worried about this? Should poll workers be allowed to close out and go home if the tally doesn’t match (they can’t here)? We also know this problem has existed since the 1960 election when the Chicago vote was suspect (or 2008 vote in Philadelphia).
In addition, statistically African-American voters were shown to vote 88% for the Democratic candidate in 2016. However, many inner-city precincts reported not a single vote for the non-democratic candidate – what happened to the 12% not voting for the Democrat? Multiply this across the country (especially in the large inner city areas) and the vote tally changes significantly. Many politicians/judges are concerned that voter ID laws have put a “damper” on minority votes. But why would you not require the same verification (ID) to vote as you do to board an airplane or attend the Democratic Convention? In many states non-citizens may apply for/receive a driver’s license and in many of these same states one must only show a driver’s license to vote. Isn’t this voter fraud as well? For even though they are not citizens they have the credential and are allowed to vote. These examples do not even begin to address the problems of “over-voting.” Election officials do not ”purge” voter lists of voters who have “passed away” or have moved to other states and are registered to vote there because Federal judges (and the Federal government) will not allow the state to have the requisite data to do so. Ms. Stein is right -- clearly there are many problems with our voting system and Putin/the Russians and Comey/the FBI are the least of the problems.
