WE the PEOPLE not ME“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,(1) promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America”. That’s the preamble to the Constitution as written in 1787.

Regrettably, “We the People” are failing at every preamble objective today

For the individual goals listed to be met, those seeking independence were required to step up to make them happen. The framers of the Constitution couldn’t do it, and neither could any follow-on President or Congress. It was going to take “We the People of the United States” back then, just as it still takes “We the People of the United States” now. Regrettably, “We the People” are failing at every preamble objective today.
  1. The Union is less perfect than at any time during my nearly eight decades here on earth.
  2. Justice in 2021 is an outright farce.
  3. Domestic Tranquility is nonexistent coast-to-coast.
  4. Common defense is focused on woke rubbish rather than defending the nation.
  5. General Welfare is in the toilet, unless it’s measured as those dependent on welfare rolls which might be at an all-time high.
  6. The Blessings of Liberty exist for only two groups … the privileged elite and illegal aliens.
And, finally, our Posterity is taking it in the posterior; none of the rights in the U.S. Constitution will be left to them if things don’t change … SOON. D.L. Lewis: “Liberty was fought with bullets, Blood was shed for independence, Sacrifices were made for freedom”.

Liberty and freedom come at a cost

Liberty and freedom come at a cost, and few Americans seem willing to step up and pay those costs anymore. As I noted in a recent opinion piece, “Today it’s all, ‘ME! ME! ME!’ often followed by a two-word term-of-endearment [sic]. And, NO, it’s not ‘LOVE YOU!’” (Last Rites for “WE” in America — Last Rights for America? Aug. 31, 2021) Close thought; the second word is the same and the first still has four letters, “XXXX YOU!” You guessed it. That does not bode well for “We the People” as America approaches her 250th birthday in 2026. Essentially every article I’ve written over the past year has been related to my combat service in Vietnam and the more gruesome war I encountered coming home. They are instructive as to what “We the People” must do today. The colorblind brotherhood in battle was a central component of the very first article written about a half-century “time warp” I witnessed firsthand (TIME WARP: 1969/70 Anarchy … Recycle 2019/20 [url=https://canadafreepress.com/article/time-warp-1969-70-anarchy-recycle-2019-20]https://canadafreepress.com/article/time-warp-1969-70-anarchy-recycle-2019-20[/url] Dec. 3, 2020). In combat, “my brothers were just that: BROTHERS; black, white, pink, purple — TOTALLY irrelevant.” That led to perhaps the most important take-home lesson from my time in Southeast Asia: “Thus, I left Vietnam knowing we are all ONE.”

The Gully of the Shadows of Death Disproved Critical Race Theory [CRT] Over 50-Years Ago

My opinion about that has never changed even though my “Welcome Home” from Vietnam bombarded me with just the opposite. “I came home to discover we’re "NOT” because that’s what many anarchists back then were out to prove. They are trying even harder today and far too many Americans have caved to their lies. How do I know they are lies? It’s pretty easy, actually. I experienced the truth on the battlefield where life and death were the defining metrics. Brothers in combat focused on keeping their brothers alive, routinely risking their own lives in doing so. And, again, “black, white, pink, purple — TOTALLY irrelevant.” As one of my other titles highlighted, (“The Gully of the Shadows of Death Disproved Critical Race Theory [CRT] Over 50-Years Ago”, Feb. 2, 2021). My brothers and I encountered that gully on Groundhog Day in 1969 and too many did not survive the shadows. Nonetheless, it proved conclusively, we are all ONE. Nothing tops the altruism of “WE not ME” selfless service in combat (TIME WARP: 1969/70 Anarchy … Recycle 2019/20 Dec. 3, 2020). The collateral on the line is your life, and in 1969 nearly one-hundred percent of my brothers in Vietnam placed it there knowingly … willingly.

It’s probably unrealistic to ask “We the People” today to commit to that level. Domestic wars are different than foreign wars. However, the same principles are needed if liberty and freedom are to survive, something equivalent to “WE not ME” in combat … “WE the PEOPLE not ME” perhaps. It encompasses the neighbors helping neighbors approach of my parents’ generation, a reality I saw play out repeatedly on the small dairy farm where I was raised. Today, mothers and fathers standing up against tyrannical school boards and teachers’ unions cramming CRT and related hogwash down their children’s throats is a great start. “We the People” must rally around them. The actual racists pushing the CRT/equity agenda must be illuminated for what they are … Marxist bigots and race-baiters. Authoritarians come to power when significant portions of the population become dependent on them, and the CRT/equity agenda creates the requisite, needy victims’ groups. “ME! ME! ME! XXXX YOU!” moaners are brought together in Marxist collectives where they can blame others for something — anything — and, then, demand reparations (equity) to make up for it. Lawlessness helps too and, thus, slashing police budgets was the thing to do. “Someone with the IQ of a cabbage could have predicted the outcome of the left’s defunding the police efforts (American Thinker, , July 31, 2021). These slugs are no different than those spitting on soldiers returning from Vietnam a half century ago. Now they’re spitting on all segments of law enforcement, the thin blue line. They must be stopped … NOW. So, for “We the People,” it’s time to step up. American Patriots — fighting for “WE the PEOPLE not Me” — must overcome the “ME! ME! ME! XXXX YOU!” Marxists. And to succeed, just as in combat, “WE” is the key! _________________ (1) The British spelling of defense.

R.W. Trewyn Ph.D.—— Ron Trewyn was a university professor 44-years, working in upper administration the last 28. Drafted into the Army in January 1968, he attended the Army NCO School after basic and advanced infantry training, graduating as a Staff Sergeant, E-6. In 1969, he served as a Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Leader in the Republic of Vietnam with Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade until wounded in action. After serving in the Army, he completed his undergraduate degree and earned a Ph.D. in microbial physiology with minors in biochemistry and genetics. Following 4-years of postdoctoral cancer research, he joined the medical school faculty and Comprehensive Cancer Center at Ohio State University for 16-years. Thereafter, he served in a variety of central administration roles at Kansas State University, retiring as Vice President for Research Emeritus.
