The mayor of Toronto is an international embarrassment

No, his first name does not begin with “R” and his last name is not the same as a major American automobile manufacturer. And he does not smoke crack. It is Toronto’s new mayor, John Tory who was elected last November. On Friday, the 2015 Pan Am Games (or as its critics fondly refer to it, the “Pan Scam” Games) began in Toronto, a city whose elite like to refer to as “world class.”

George Takei—too dumb to be a real racist

As everyone who does not depend on the left wing mainstream media for news knows by now, actor and gay rights spokesman, George Takei, is not too pleased with what Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wrote in his dissenting opinion in the gay marriage case, Obergefell v. Hodges.

Media bias or media stupidity?

In recent years a lot of attention has been placed on media bias. Those on the right of the political spectrum are always pointing out the left wing bias of the mainstream media such as the New York Times, CNN, and no one’s favourite, MSNBC.

Constantly bashing Justin Trudeau has its consequences

A recent Ekos poll finds the NDP with a slight lead over the Tories and the Liberals. This poll is consistent with another recent poll that found the three major parties in a statistical dead heat. According to the Ekos findings, the socialist party has the support of 31.3% of those polled followed by the Conservatives at 29.2%. The Liberals trail at 23.9%. Compared to support at the 2011 election, the Conservatives have dropped at the expense of both the Liberals and the NDP.

On Friday, former Ontario deputy minister of education, Ben Levin, was sentenced to three years in the penitentiary. In March, Levin pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing child pornography, making child pornography, and counselling the commission of a sexual assault. Four other child porn related charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

Boston Marathon bombing—it had nothing to do with Islam

There are several “laws” such as Godwin’s Law. Godwin’s Law is named after American lawyer and author, Mike Godwin, and postulates the longer a discussion on the Internet goes, the chance that one of the participants will compare someone or something to Hitler or the Nazis increases. A new and similar law is needed; perhaps it could be called “Ortiz’ Law.” Ortiz’ Law would hypothesize that the longer a person discusses Islamic terrorism, the more certain it will be that that person will say the act or acts in question have absolutely nothing to do with Islam. No, no, no. After a federal jury in Boston sentenced Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death, the US Attorney on the case, Carmen Ortiz made a fairly lengthy statement to the media. As she went on and on and on, it was inevitable she would say something to the effect that the terrorist act committed by Tsarnaev and his late brother had absolutely nothing to do with Islam or Muslims. And she did not disappoint.

Anjem Choudary should have his own television show

Radical UK imam, Anjem Choudary, made an appearance on Hannity last week. Choudary appeared alongside Pamela Geller to discuss the latter’s cartoon contest held in Garland, Texas, that saw two noble practitioners of the religion of peace shot dead by a Garland traffic cop. A security guard was shot and received minor wounds in what was by those able to understand what is going on in the world, a terrorist attack. Many people do not think Hannity should have the imam on his show, arguing Choudary should not be given an opportunity to express his radical views. These appearances might, so it is said, lead to some people watching becoming radicalized.

Alysin Camerota will never be ready for prime time

In its infancy, television was commonly referred to as “the boob tube,” and it was fashionable for the elites to deny they ever watched it. How television was viewed changed when John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Decades before 24/7 cable news networks emerged, the big three US networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC dropped their regularly scheduled programming and provided continuous coverage of the aftermath of the assassination for four days. Those who were watching at the right time were able to see Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald to death in real time. Viewers knew they were watching history in the making. Television became more respectable.

Violence not related to Freddie Gray on the increase in Baltimore

The Baltimore Sun reports in the week since protests turned into major riots, violent crime unrelated to the riots has gone up. Since last Tuesday, there have been eight murders and 12 shootings in the Maryland city that are completely unrelated to anything to do with the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray.

Rudy Giuliani: He’s not ‘America’s mayor’ any more

Former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani appeared on Fox News earlier this week to talk about what else, Baltimore. Giuliani, like many others who are not Obamabots, took exception to the way the authorities in that city handled the protests when they turned into full blown riots.

Baltimore mayor blames media for twisting her words

Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the 45-year-old mayor of Baltimore, is a Democrat. Not something widely advertised by the leftist media but it actually does not need mentioning. Watching her actions and listening to her speeches since what began as a peaceful protest on Saturday, it is clear she could not be anything other than a Democrat.

Baltimore mayor supported violence and destruction of property

As is par for the course these days, a peaceful protest turned into a riot on Saturday as over a thousand turned out in the streets of Baltimore to protest the death of Freddie Gray. The 25-year-old black man died in police custody seven days after being arrested after a foot pursuit. It is being alleged Gray suffered a spinal injury and was not provided with immediate medical assistance.

Britt McHenry: Let’s hear the rest of the story

As everyone knows by now, ESPN’s Britt McHenry gained a lot more fame than she ever had on the sidelines when she had a recent run-in with a woman clerk at a towing company. McHenry showed up to get her car that had been towed from the parking lot of a northern Virginia Chinese restaurant. She had left the vehicle in the parking lot all night.

What the Mike Duffy trial will definitely prove

The trial of suspended Mike Duffy started in Ottawa a week ago. The Conservative appointee is facing 31 fraud and breach of trust charges that were laid in July 2014. The trial is expected to be lengthy and some in the media are calling it “the trial of the century.” Of course it isn’t but the Harper-hating media see it as a chance to help bring down Prime Minister Harper who appointed Duffy to the Upper Chamber.

Anti-American NDP opposes extension of ISIS mission

The six-month mission to battle ISIS that Canada committed to last fall will end on April 7. Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced he will go to Parliament this to request an extension of the mission to battle ISIS for a further year. The current engagement, limited to Iraq, may be broadened to include Syria. Canada’s role under the current mission has been to conduct air strikes, as well as flying surveillance and reconnaissance missions and training Iraqi and Kurdish fighters. One Canadian soldier, Sgt. Andrew Dorion, was killed earlier this month by Kurds in a friendly fire incident.

Liberals hiding scandals under beer and alcohol grocery store sales?

During the last few years, almost forever, both Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments have floated the idea of allowing beer and/or alcohol to be sold in places other than government-run stores manned by union workers. The idea never went anywhere.

Terrorism, niqabs and 1930s Germany

What took place in Canada during the last week isn’t exactly Godwin’s Law but it is close. The law postulates that if an online discussion goes on long enough, eventually someone will compare something or someone to Hitler or the Nazis. A couple of federal MPs didn’t disappoint.
