A Call for International Solidarity with Political Prisoners in Iran

In the past year the international community has become more and more aware of the conditions of Islamic Regime Prisons and the treatment of political prisoners in Iran. What the international community has seen in the past year is only the tip of the iceberg, of what freedom loving Iranian political prisoners have been subjected to for the past 31 years.

“Independence, Freedom, Iranian Republic.”

Dear Mr. Mark M. Persaud, We, a group of Iranian pro-democracy and human rights activists are writing to you to voice our concern and disappointment in your decision to invite Ms. Shirin Ebadi to speak in Toronto on April 26th 2010. As Iranians who are working towards a secular and democratic Iran, along with our compatriots in Iran we are concerned that you have made the decision to invite a pro-reformist speaker who does not represent the will or the demands of the Iranian people to speak at your event.

I just came back from watching the play “Beneath the Veil” by Mary Apick, which I left feeling disturbed and very confused. From reading reviews about the play and Ms. Apicks work I was expecting a play which portrayed the oppression of women by the Islamic Regime and other Islamic Countries.

With the recent news of a mother and two of her adult children being sentenced to death by the Islamic Regime courts, as well as many other gross human right violations including peaceful protestors being sentenced to death, prisoners being raped and tortured in prison and many activists being sentenced to heavy jail terms the question many of us are asking is What Can We do to Help?

Shadmehr Aghili Concert in Toronto on March 5th 2010

I had the pleasure of attending Shadmehr Aghili’s Concert in Toronto. Shadmehr Aghili is arguably one of the most talented young Iranian musicians out there. He does not only write and sing songs but plays numerous instruments, and is someone I consider a true musician.

Abdulmalik Rigi’s “Capture” and Its Implications for Iranian Opposition Abroad

image On Tuesday February 23rd 201 Islamic Regime security forces “captured” Abdulmalik Rigi, the 27 year old leader of the armed Balouchi/Iranian opposition group Jundullah. Jundullah is also known as People’s Resistance Movement of Iran and is a Sunni, Balouchi group that carries out armed operations against the Islamic Regime. There have been numerous and contradictory accounts of how Mr. Rigi was “captured.” Regime’s English language network Press TV reported that he was “arrested” in one of Iran’s southern ports when his jet was “forced” to land while taking him from Kyragyzstan to Dubai.

Rising Conflict in Iranian Kurdistan

imageOne of the most under-reported human rights issues in Iran is the current state of Kurdish political prisoners, and in particular, the current eighteen political prisoners who are on death row and may be facing imminent execution. Unfortunately, serious consequences and escalated conflict may be imminent if the conditions continue to be ignored.

Two Political Prisoners Involved in the Recent Protests in Iran have been Executed

imageMr. Arash Rahmanipour and Mr. Mohammad Reza Ali Zamani were executed this morning (Thursday January 28th 2010), due to their peaceful participation in the recent post [s]election protests. In total 11 protestors have been sentenced to death. There is no information about the identity of these individuals. It seems as though in the anticipation of the 22 Bahman (February 11th ) protests which are expected to be the largest anti-Regime protests to date, the Regime is doing everything in its power to try to intimidate the potential protestors. The execution of Mr. Rahmanipour and RM. Ali Zamani, so close to the 22 Bahman protest is nothing but a sign of weakness and fear by the Islamic Regime.
