Hugo Chavez, the cokehead?

Hugo Chavez“It all,” as the orphanage nuns used to tell us children, “comes out in the wash.” Venezuela’s big-talking President Hugo Chavez has revealed that he regularly consumes coca—the source of cocaine. In other words, save for the palace, the trappings and the fawning celebrities, Hugo Chavez seems to be just your average cokehead. Kudos to savvy El Nuevo Herald reporter Casto Ocando for revealing one explanation where Chavez gets his bully personality. It’s enough to restore your faith in the Mainstream Media.

The US Defense Secretary’s Cindy Sheehan moment

The next time US Defense Secretary Robert Gates gets a Cindy Sheehan moment against NATO forces in southern Afghanistan, accusing them of being ill-prepared to fight off an insurgency, he should keep it to himself. Gates, who unleashed a storm in harsh NATO criticism on Wednesday, was already back-pedaling on Thursday. But by the time he was rephrasing his intemperate remarks, Canadian, anti-troop, publicity hound New Democrat Party (NDP) leader Jack Layton had already seized upon the moment.

North Americans aiding Hekmatyar, a deadly misunderstanding

International terrorist Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, alleged recipient of an approximate $130,000 sent his way by former Kalamazoo-area congressman Mark Siljander, seems to have no trouble finding supporters on North American soil. Siljander, a former US delegate to the United Nations, was indicted yesterday for his part in an alleged terrorist fundraising ring that is accused of sending more than $130,000 to an al-Qaeda and Taliban supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan. “The money, sent to bank accounts in Peshawar, Pakistan in 2003 and 2004, was masked as donations to an orphanage located in buildings that Hekmatyar owned.” (Breitbart.com, Jan. 16, 2008).

Al Qaeda one up on Las Vegas Tech Show

osama bin laden The highest of high technology was showcased at the International Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas last week. Among big tech changes coming your way, the ability to watch Digital TV programs on your cell phone, lap top--or car navigation system--while driving. If the lady stopped next to you at the red light stays kaput when the light turns green, she’s likely emerged in the Oprah Winfrey Show. Within a week of the Las Vegas Tech Show, came the announcement that Oprah is launching her own network.

Media Matters for America Treasurer among Who’s Who on George Soros Democracy Alliance

With David Brock getting the lion’s share of the attention as the benighted “King of Switcheroo” over at Media Matters for America, who pays any attention to members of his board of directors? Guess that’s how most folk missed that Media Matter’s Treasurer, Rachel Pritzker Hunter is among the Who’s Who in the George Soros $100 million clearing house known as the Democracy Alliance (DA).

Pictures of chained-by-the-neck hostages should haunt moral supporters of Chavez & Sarkozy forever

It didn’t take Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez long to show where he is coming from on the recent release of two Colombian hostages by their cruel captors. In the space of two short days, Chavez has taken on the role as numero uno PR flak for the dreaded Revolutionary Armed forces of Colombia (FARC), the hemisphere’s biggest kidnapping force with 14,000 armed fighters. While Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has managed to push the world’s most expert kidnapping contingent back into the jungle, Chavez attempts to bring them out as heroes.

Whatever happened to negotiations for the promised release of Ingrid Betancourt?

The silence of French President Nicolas Sarkozy is deafening on the tragic fate of French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt. No questions from Sarkozy yesterday when Clara Rojas, who was kidnapped in 2002 along with Betancourt and Consuelo Gonzalez de Perdomo, a former Colombian member of congress, taken hostage in 2001, were set free and flown to waiting family members in Venezuela. Surely his question should have been: What about Ingrid Betancourt?

Colombian hostages free at last!

No one could have better described the joy over the news that two women hostages held by Colombian rebels had been set free than the Colombian radio network Caracol on its website today: “At last, they’re free!” “At last” in this case was six long years and those simple words unleashed a stream of joyful tears across the land. “Here, it is like Christmas all over again,” Bogotá Free Planet publisher Ernesto Pardo, told Canada Free Press (CFP) this afternoon.

Ugly and painful sores result of prolonged severe antibiotic abuse in Red China

ugly soresThe so-called “Killer Super bugs” now stalking world hospitals is yet another `Made in China’ export. “On December 19, 2007 the Health Department of Hong Kong Government acknowledged that reported cases of community super bug infection have increased to 175 cases with 2 deaths for the year ending 10/31/2007 and about 10% came from massage salons in Hong Kong and Mainland China.” (Next Magazine, #930, Jan. 3, 2008). “The super bug (antibiotic resistant Staph Aureus bacteria) may cause fatal disease with 50% mortality.”

Unromanticizing Oliver Stone

Oliver StoneMy Colombian friends at Bogotá Free Planet are more than a little put out that “maverick” American film director Oliver Stone would write their country off as his country’s personal playing field. It didn’t go over the heads of average Colombians that the sore loser, spoil sport Hollywood director--caught looking bad with sidekick Hugo Chavez on a hostage release that never happened--made his scathing comments from the safety of his California spread.

Marine proves from grave that love is forever

Lance Cpl. Travis Layfield's bracelet worn by USMC Sgt. ChavezIn a world where the anti-war contingent goes to such extremes to trash the image of the American soldier, a voice from the grave proves that love conquers all. The story of how a well-worn bracelet found a fallen soldier’s Mother this Christmas is one that tops the list of inspiration of a most riveting kind. It’s inspiration that stirs the soul based on the fact that even in death, Lance Cpl. Travis Layfield keeps reaching back to his grief stricken family, particularly to his Mom, Diane.

Today’s DNA could prove Hugo Chavez a liar

While arrogant Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and his Hollywood sidekick director Oliver Stone held the world at bay over the Christmas holidays waiting for the release of a 3-year-old hostage, the little boy could have been in a Bogotá orphanage all the while. “Relatives of a child born to a hostage mother and a guerilla father will undergo DNA testing Tuesday to determine whether the child is still a captive—or in a Bogotá orphanage, as the Colombian president has charged.” (AFP, Jan. 1, 2008). Proof that Emmanuel is in a Bogotá orphanage would prove Chavez, prancing about Villavicencio in the signature red beret and fatigues of his paratrooper days as the global court jester of all time.

Auld Lang Syne with Cindy Sheehan

You’d think the parents of troops serving in Iraq could count on a break from Cindy Sheehan on the first day of the New Year, but thanks to the White Rose Coalition, Sheehan will be front and center at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. “Local and national pro-impeachment and pro-Peace American citizens will stage non-violent protests and demonstrations throughout the Rose Parade on Tuesday, 0/01/08, New Year’s Day with support from Cindy Sheehan and the Camp Casey Peace Institute.” (9/11TruthLA, Nov. 28, 2007).

Pointing finger of blame for assassination at Punjabis with Jack Layton’s apparent approval

It didn’t take long for opportunistic Canadian New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jack Layton to cash in on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Taking time out from his anti-war activities and home for the holidays, Layton turned out yesterday at a Queen’s Park protest rally staged by the Pakistan People’s Party of Canada (PPP-Canada).

Imminent release of boy born in captivity seen as Christmas Miracle

For Colombians the hours of December 27, 2007 could prove a Christmas Miracle come true. Among the three high-profile hostages held by Colombian rebels promised to be set free today is three-year-old Emmanuel. Born in captivity, Emmanuel is the son of Clara Rojas, an aide to former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.

Calling the Christmas angel in the season of miracles

Madelaine McCannIt’s Christmas Day 2007 and like all Christmas' that went before and those still to come, it’s the zenith of the Season of Miracles. Innocence everywhere looks for a wish to come true on this night of all nights. Tonight and tomorrow is the time of the believer in many faiths in many countries. Cynics and ridicule can never blow out the flame of the Christmas candle. Believers in a weary, and yes, often cruel world, make room for miracles to happen.

Toronto commuter turns dog’s distress into Christmas miracle

Jagger It all started on the GO Train, just another day on the way to work. As the miles sped away getting to his office, Mac Wilson gave scant attention to his fellow commuters as he sat there planning his Christmas shopping list. The countryside flashed by the window, the trees now showing black limbs rather than golden leaves against a brooding winter sky. Then he spotted it, a dog in the Don River. He couldn’t be sure, but that’s what he thought as the train went speeding by.

Anonymous Muslim would dump Canada Free Press and its likes in the trash of history

Canada Free Press (CFP) emails from abroad today included one from the head office of Zalloum Group headquarters in Jordan. “Islam will prevail and you and your likes will be dumped in the trash of history,” said the email, sent in capital letters. The sender of the email took the coward’s way out and signed it simply, in caps, “A Muslim.”

Christmas miracle needed to get care package to Canadian troops in Afghanistan

Gabrielle Eckhardt What a let down that 1,700 care packages lovingly prepared by Montreal-area residents and community groups destined for Canadian troops in Afghanistan, won’t be getting there. The Christmas care packages for soldiers have been grounded after the military said they could not be sent overseas. Claiming security concerns and a lack of space on transport aircraft as reasons for blocking the packages, Canadian Forces brass informed nonplussed members of the Roxboro Legion, who spearheaded the drive that they cannot accept the packages. Parcels must be addressed to a specific soldier, the military said, and not “Any CF member”.

Did system fail 16-year-old Muslim girl murdered by father

How many Aqsa Parvezs, who died Monday night after being attacked in her Mississauga home by her own father, live in the Greater Toronto Area? Aqsa, found barely alive in her bedroom by police was only 16 years old. It was well known by her friends that Aqsa was in trouble at home. The teen, who wanted to dance to Rhythm & Blues and hang out with friends like any other Canadian teen, told peers she had been struck on the arms and across the face under a strict regime followed by her parents. “She told me many times that her dad had threatened her,” her friend Dominiqua Holmes-Thompson, 16, told the Toronto Star yesterday. “She was serious.”
