Why Obama's Keystone XL rejection excuses are a complete load of crap

It's bad enough that President Obama dragged his feet for seven years before doing what everyone knew he was going to do. TransCanada, the Canadian government an awful lot of Americans who could have used the economic boost (including the folks in North Dakota and an awful lot of Obama's union supporters) were left to twist in the wind while Obama pretended he was "reviewing" the proposed Keystone XL pipeline.

ObamaCare gives Kentucky a Republican businessman governor

According to all the polls leading up to last Tuesday’s gubernatorial election in Kentucky, Republican businessman Matt Bevin wasn’t supposed to have a chance. This was the same Matt Bevin who had launched a lamentably unsuccessful primary campaign last year against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and was treated by much of the press in the state (OK, technically the commonwealth) as a loose cannon who couldn’t be taken seriously.

Of course: Justice Department will file no charges against Lois Lerner

I suppose there was no other way this could have ended. The Obama-era Justice Department does not exist to enforce the laws on the books except to the extent that doing so is politically helpful to Democrats, so just as her predecessor Eric Holder would have done, Attorney General Loretta Lynch has declined to bring any charges against Lois Lerner for using her position at the IRS to harass nonprofit conservative groups.

A simple but oh so necessary message to law enforcement: Thank you

As I discussed on my radio show this morning, I had the honor last night of addressing a wonderful group of law enforcement officers. These were Atlanta-area traffic enforcement officers, so it made sense that I was accompanied by Ashley Frasca, who does traffic reporting for WSB in addition to being the associate producer of my show.

Meet a victor over domestic abuse

I had the honor on my radio show today of interviewing Charmagne Helton, who has quite a story to tell about her personal victory over domestic abuse. If you didn't catch it on the radio, here's where you can hear the whole thing in full. We had Charmagne on the show as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is happening now. But let's recognize that domestic violence happens all year. And one part of Charmagne's testimony that really struck me was idea that she couldn't be a "battered woman" because she was college-educated and successful in her career.

Three options in 2016: Establishment, socialist or prosperity

I had the honor of giving some remarks this past weekend at Donald Trump's really in Norcross, Georgia. As most of you know there are six candidates to whom I'm favorable in this election cycle: Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Marco Rubio, Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz. So my appearance there did not constitute an endorsement specifically of Trump.

The media's predictable (and so far laughably inept) attempt to tear down Ben Carson

This has a familiar feel to me, as you might imagine. Ben Carson is a black conservative who is not part of the political establishment, and is running quite strong in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. That has the media in a snit for all kinds of reasons. They don’t like black conservatives (OK, any conservatives, but especially blacks who dared to venture off the liberal plantation). They don’t like people who aren’t part of the political class daring to operate on their turf.

Don't be a soundbite supporter

As this presidential race continues to unfold, some of us learn more and more about the candidates' ideas for solving problems and their leadership potential. In the process, some people flip-flop their opinions of the candidates based upon the latest take-down soundbites served up by some media sources.

Obama's lousy new normal: Job growth disappoints yet again

One of the biggest wastes of time imaginable is to read news stories about what's expected in upcoming economic reports. Late last week, we were regaled with stories about how economists were expecting news of robust job growth, and how this would be followed by serious consideration on the part of the Federal Reserve Board to finally raise interest rates--which have been kept artificially low for years in the hope of spurring job growth.

Good news, Ben Carson fans, your candidate is a fundraising juggernaut

If you're a supporter of Dr. Ben Carson's presidential bid, you had some good news this week. After a summer when it sometimes looked like his campaign was spending money faster than it could generate donations, the good doctor's fortunes have turned around. Not only did Carson have a stellar quarter, but he's also breaking records and demolishing the pace set by the 2012 GOP field.

Trump's tax plan: Lower rates and a simpler structure, but is it enough?

I've been perusing Donald Trump's proposed changes to the federal tax code, and if you measure the proposal strictly by comparing it with the status quo, it's no contest. Trump's plan wins by several lengths of the galaxy. Of course, that's a pretty low bar. I've been saying since my own campaign four years ago that what we need to do is not reform the tax code but throw it out and start over. Trump's proposal doesn't do that. It's still a progressive code with rates that gradually rise as your income rises. But it does achieve a lot of the simplification that would free people up to stop obsessing over tax strategies and just focus on running their businesses and/or their lives.

The five types of attacks ruling this presidential season

We expect attacks and opportunistic criticism between presidential candidates whether they are of opposing parties or running in a primary battle within the same party. That is especially true this year, when Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment about Republicans not attacking each other was thrown out the window right from the start of the early primary season.

The pain of ObamaCare gets worse

While the media are focused on the pope's historic visit to the USA, gotcha mania with Republican presidential candidates and he said/she said politics, the pain of ObamaCare on real people gets worse.
