European Violence Hits Calgary

CALGARY — B’nai Brith Canada is calling on Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi to conduct a thorough investigation of police conduct after several Israel supporters were assaulted at a rally last Friday, sending five to the hospital. Initial reports from the victims indicate that Calgary police were nowhere to be seen during the violent melee — even though they were informed in advance — and allegedly made racist remarks to the victims when they did eventually arrive on the scene.

Dimant challenges Siddiqui

TORONTO — Last week, Haroon Siddiqui, the Toronto Star’s editorial page editor emeritus and a member of the Order of Canada, published a piece accusing secularists and liberals of enabling Egypt's new military junta and unjustly labelling the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. B’nai Brith Canada has often disagreed with the opinions of Mr. Siddiqui and this type of conspiratorial journalism as a cheap and unwarranted indirect attack on the Jewish community.

WorldPride to Feature Anti-Israel Floats

TORONTO — Allowing Queers Against Israeli Apartheid (QuAIA) to once again march in the Annual Pride Parade, scheduled for June 29, 2014, is most unfortunate, says B’nai Brith Canada. To date, Toronto City Councillor James Pasternak has been one of the few voicing opposition to QuAIA’s participation on the grounds that they unfairly slander and demonize the Jewish State.

Israeli Travelers Restricted by Cruise Line

TORONTO, — B'nai Brith Canada has learned from Canadian Jewish tourists aboard a Norwegian Jade cruise ship that Israeli tourists have been denied the right to disembark when the ship dropped anchor at the Port of Tunis, Tunisia. As passengers began preparations to visit the country, Israelis on board were quietly told that they were not welcomed by the Tunisian Government and would have to remain onboard.

Burning Jews Not a Hate Crime in Canada

Toronto — Following a recent court ruling on the case of a school based assault, B'nai Brith Canada is urging the Attorney General to review its guidelines for imposing enhanced sentences in hate motivated crime cases. A Winnipeg high school student pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon. During the incident the student called out "Let's Burn the Jew" while holding on to a lighter which burned the hair of the female victim.

Harassment of Religious Anti-Boycott Activist

December 3, 2013, Toronto -- Jewish Human Rights organization, B'nai Brith Canada, has condemned the latest protest calling for a boycott of Israeli products. The anti-Israel protest, which took place today outside a Canadian Tire store in downtown Toronto, targeted SodaStream, a popular Israeli kitchen gadget that carbonates beverages, now sold across Canada. It is one of a number of Israeli companies presently being targeted by the United Church and other groups.

Convicted Terrorist Will be Given Platform at University of British Columbia

University of British Columbia (UBC) has abdicated its responsibility to stop convicted terrorist Leila Khaled from having the opportunity to poison the minds of Canadian students says B’nai Brith Canada. Khaled is scheduled to speak via Skype at a conference hosted by a Pro-Palestinian university student group and sponsored by a university Alma Mater Society on the 4th of May. She has been convicted of terrorism for carrying out hijackings for the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a listed terrorist organization.
