The need to transport coal, oil and lumber across the Kinzua Gorge inspired General Thomas Kane, president of the New York, Lake Erie and Western Coal Company and Octave Chanute, Chief Engineer for the Erie Railroad to design a colossal viaduct.

Toronto Housing Starts Surge in March

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire) - The seasonally-adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of total housing starts for the Toronto Census Metropolitan Area increased to 58,300 units in March, according to preliminary housing starts data released today by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The level of activity was well above the trend represented by the six-month moving average.

Voters in Anchorage, Alaska, Send Strong Message in Favor of the Natural Family

Anchorage, AK – Voters in Anchorage, Alaska, overwhelmingly voted in favor of the natural family by rejecting Proposition 5, a measure that would have given special rights based on lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, and transsexual behavior. The measure was put on the ballot and supported by a consortium of LGBT groups, called “One Anchorage.” But Proposition 5 was defeated by a margin of 58 – 41. Proposition 5 would have added “sexual orientation” and even “gender identity,” whether real or perceived, to the city’s code.

Christianity growing in Afghanistan

(Source: Mohabat News) Afghanistan, a country long suffering from civil wars, has not experienced peace for many years. Ongoing bombings by fundamentalist Muslims have stolen peace from the lives of Afghanis. However, the country has recently seen signs of change as people hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. According to Mohabat News, "Informed Afghan authorities acknowledge that Christianity has obtained a special place not only among youth, but also among various layers in society. (In addition), house churches are growing tremendously." Further, an independent Shi'ite website in Iran reportedly quoted a knowledgeable Afghan official as saying, "There is evidence of widespread Christian propaganda in Afghanistan, and the existence of more than 10 churches that operate secretly in residential houses have been proven."
