Achilles' Heel Real Deal

There exists a powerful strategy for vanquishing the Administrative State. It requires we adopt a new paradigm, however, one not so easily grasped unless one has 'been there.' Once impressed upon our minds, however, this insight captures the otherwise unseen Achilles' Heel of our vast bureaucracy. And once apprehended, the Leviathan's Achilles' Heel is easily exploited, allowing us total victory. Read on. See how.

Downsizing Australia's Government and Repealing Green Laws

Try to imagine a commission of the U.S. government recommending that it get rid of the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, countless agencies, and, for good measure, restructure Medicare so it doesn’t go broke. There are few Americans who will argue that our federal government isn’t big enough and many who trace our present problems to Big Government.

Winters in the United States Are Getting Colder

The Huffington Post is unhappy about how CNN Crossfire covered the latest National Climate Assessment (NCA) during a debate between Bill Nye and S.E. Cupp. Of course, the Post wanted more hysteria, but at least they acknowledged that "'Crossfire' had everything you don't want in a climate change segment. The use of Bill Nye, who has no background in climate science, as the 'climate change is real' participant? Check."

Portland: City of Pure Water

In early April a teenager urinated into one of Portland's water reservoirs. Admittedly, this is a dumb, irritating thing to do. But as Laura Helmuth points out, in one of the most spectacularly stupid decisions in years, the city is going to drain the 38 million gallon reservoir. The most unbelievably stupid decision in about three years anyway--if this sounds familiar, that's because Portland did the same thing in 2011, when they emptied 7.5 million gallons from the same reservoir for the same reason. China Economy Expected to Overtake U.S. Economy This Year

Forecasters predicted that China would overtake the United States in economic output sometime this decade[1]—but no one predicted that it would be this soon, i.e. in 2014. But, that is exactly what the Financial Times is telling us. The United States has been the global leader since 1872, when it overtook the United Kingdom as the world’s economic leader.(i) But its 141-year term as number one is about to end -- if not this year, then very, very soon. China’s new economic superpower status is being achieved on the heels of China’s emergence as an energy superpower a few short years ago.

HGTV axes planned show because host David Benham discovered to oppose gay agenda

I had never heard of David Benham until just now, probably because I'm not a fan of home improvement shows. But a lot of people had, and thought highly not only of his home improvement skills but also his screen presence, which is why he and his twin brother Jason were slated to host a show on HGTV called Flip It Forward.

More bad news on the employment front

Applications for U.S. unemployment aid fell this week to 319,000. Last week the number was 344,000. Now you might think that’s good news, but it’s not. What matters when you look at this number is the rolling four-week average, which the Labor Department says is up 4,500. That means we’re still looking at about 325,000 people a week filing for unemployment claims.

Toyota's Tacoma TRD offers fine utility; but "racing development"?

Toyota made its name in pickup trucks and four wheel drive decades ago and the company hasn't sat back on its laurels since then, with its Tacoma small pickup continuing the company's history of offering excellent trucks that are virtually indestructible.

Six Dems join GOP in 231-187 vote that holds Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress

Yesterday evening, the House of Representatives voted to hold Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress. The tally went down mostly along party lines, with Republicans taking the day 231 to 187. Yep, that's right. 187 Democrats have no problem with Lerner's actions. However, there were six Dems who decided to join the GOP effort.

Hillary's State Department refused to designate Boko Haram a terrorist group

Hillary Clinton needs to be elected president, we are told, because she's all about freedom and opportunity for women. Rhetorically, she has been trying to make that point in recent days by railing against the Nigerian terror group Boko Haram and its horrific practice of abducting innocent girls.

Cross Border Price Regulation: Anti-Competition Policy?

A recent proposal in the 2014 federal budget to legislate against cross-border price discrimination is profoundly wrong-headed in approach and should not proceed. This is the consensus view of the C.D. Howe Institute’s Competition Policy Council, which held its seventh meeting on April 25th, 2014.

The Question of Identity in Jordan and the Peace Treaty with Israel

The upheavals in Jordan’s strategic environment have sparked a heated debate on the social media regarding the identity of the Hashemite kingdom and Jordan’s relations with Israel. The response to the killing in March 2014 of Raed Zeiter, a Jordanian-Palestinian judge, at the Allenby Bridge crossing by IDF soldiers presents an illustrative case study in this matter. Following the incident, three main trends were evident in the intensive discussions on the social media: 1. There are strong differences in approach between the various influential groups in Jordan - the Trans-Jordanians and the Palestinian Jordanians - on the question of identity and solidarity among “Jordanians” versus “Palestinians.” 2. The efforts by some Palestinians and opposition leaders in Jordan to mobilize public opinion and leverage the shooting incident for the purposes of escalating bilateral Israeli-Jordanian relations clearly failed. 3. The Jordanian-Israeli peace agreement remains of strategic importance in the eyes of the Trans-Jordanians.

Boko Haram-abducted not just ‘school girls’ but ‘Black Christian school girls’

What do 20 female US senators have in common with the mainstream media on the fate of the Boko Haram-abducted girls in Nigeria? Both are doing the girls and their loved ones an unneeded disservice by describing them only as “school girls”, neglecting to identify them as what they truly are: “Christian, Black” school girls.
