“This dangerous attack serves as a reminder of the need for ongoing vigilance by all segments of the Jewish community"

Attack on French Jewish supermarket should heighten security awareness in Canada, say B’nai Br

TORONTO, B’nai Brith Canada today condemned the attack against a grocery store serving the orthodox Jewish community in a suburb of Paris, France. Given the current volatile political climate in the Middle East, violent riots protesting perceived anti-Muslim insults, and ongoing threats against Jewish institutions by terror groups linked to Iran, the Jewish human rights organization urged the community in Canada to exercise particular caution during this High Holiday season.

Frank Dimant, CEO of B’nai Brith Canada issued the following statement:
“This dangerous attack serves as a reminder of the need for ongoing vigilance by all segments of the Jewish community. Given the ongoing threats directed towards the Jewish community, most recently as a result of the ‘Mohammed film’ and cartoons published in a French weekly, and the genocidal messaging emanating from Iran, we encourage people to be highly aware of anything unusual in their surroundings. The attack on a quiet residential Paris suburb serves as a stark reminder here in Canada of the ongoing need for vigilance. “As Yom Kippur approaches, it is essential that security be maintained at a high level and that people report any suspicious activity to the police and to B’nai Brith Canada’s Anti-Hate Hotline at 1-800-892 BNAI (2624).”
