Carson earned much-deserved admiration when he famously spoke truth to power to expose the evils of Obamacare

Ben Carson confirmed as Secretary of Home Wrecking and Utopian Development

-- BombThrowers: Former presidential contender and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was sworn in today as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development after being confirmed 58 to 41 earlier in the day by the United States Senate. Also today, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry was confirmed as energy secretary 62 to 37 and sworn in. I don’t have anything interesting to say about Secretary Perry but Secretary Carson is a very interesting man.
Why is Carson a totally awesome guy in my opinion? Because he heroically spoke truth to power at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast. It was there, with President Obama a few feet away, that Carson railed against the evils of Obamacare, and in the process, helped to reinvigorate a faltering fight against the thinly disguised wealth (and health) redistribution program. Even if this instantiation of saying the emperor has no clothes is Carson’s only achievement in public life, he should receive the Medal of Freedom for raging against Obama’s monstrous and unconstitutional (despite what the black-robed politicians on the Supreme Court say) seizure of one-sixth of the U.S. economy. Notably, the endlessly overrated conservative columnist Cal Thomas went squishy at the time, attacking Carson for taking a stand against the evils of Obamacare. It was improper of Carson to sully the bipartisan prayer breakfast with his silly earthly concerns, Thomas whined like a RINO.

“Carson is a great example of what perseverance can accomplish and his success is a rebuke to the entitlement-envy-greed mentality,” he lectured at the time. “By lowering himself to mention policies with which he disagrees, he diluted the power of a superior message.” Lowering oneself is a phrase that manipulative people use to dress up acts of cowardice as examples of decency. It equates fighting for what’s right with debasement and corruption. It has no place on the proverbial battlefield of ideas. To flip what the Prussian general Carl von Clausewitz said, politics is the continuation of war by other means. Either you’re willing to bleed a little to keep the noble American experiment in limited government going or you’re not. There is no in-between. By having the courage to stand alone against a program that can only be described as antisocial and profoundly un-American at a time when the steam was running out of the anti-Obamacare movement, Dr. Carson earned a place of honor in history. So when you think of losing, especially for the pettiest of reasons, think of Cal Thomas.

Nothing good comes out of HUD. Nothing good can come out of HUD. HUD is an expensive, sinister joke

Returning to the subject of Carson’s new cabinet job, HUD is somewhere between useless and outright destructive, which is why I like to refer to the sclerotic agency as the Department of Home Wrecking and Utopian Development. HUD is social engineering combined with oodles of walking around money and it has a more or less unbroken record of failure since it was created in 1965. Carson’s first official act should be to order a demolition crew to HUD headquarters, have them lay the appropriate explosives in key spots, and push the detonation button. Nothing good comes out of HUD. Nothing good can come out of HUD. HUD is an expensive, sinister joke. Of course, he won’t do that, but a conservative can dream.
