Celebrities and Politicans

It's an absolute sin that in this era of Oprah, Blitzer and celebrity worship that the real catalysts of public opinion and potential policy makes it seem that in this election  the major media players such as Winfrey, CNN and NBC have the clout and blanket coverage to make them the most powerful brokers in politics today.

When you take into consideration the absolutely slim crop of candidates in this American election, you have to shake your head at the American public for allowing these poserrs and charlatans a chance at the most powerful office in the world. From Hillary Clinton’s back-breaking baggage, including husband Bill’s ineffective terms and scandals as president, to her own involvement in the Whitewater and muddy Vince Foster scandals, to Obama’s worship at the church run by the object of his own  undying admiration, his spiritual mentor Jeremiah A. Wright whose  Trinity United Church has been rumored to the preaching anti-Semitic policies and whose church magazine has awarded its lifetime achievement award to outspoken Black Muslim racist and anti Semite Louis Farrakhan. What a double standard exists in this sad time of rampant political correctness when the public allows such happenings with almost no explanation from the candidate! What do you think would happen if Ms.Clinton or Republican front runner John McCain's spiritual advisor awarded such honors on well known white supremist David Duke? Ill tell you that their campaign for office would last just about as long as Paris Hilton’s singing career. But it all pales when compared to the awful presidential coverage of the major media giants whose endless hours of breakdown  and analysis has more to do with the election of those candidates than do the words, policy and actions of those same politicians. A word of advice to the American voter, turn off the TV when these high priced news readers are shilling and giving you their mostly useless and or self serving views on the campaign, and pick up a good book to stimulate your brain. Or if you desperately need to tune into a bunch of boobs, then just turn your channel on to the Naked News and enjoy. I'm sure Edward R Murrow and Walter Cronkite would approve.   I'm certainly happy as hell that the police have put the cuffs on the two scumbags who mugged Jennifer Kutosa last January as she was waiting for the streetcar ay Young and King St. These two punks stole her TTC bus pass among other items while a group of passengers and reportedly a TTC driver saw the occurrence and did nothing. In fact, of all the people present only one stepped forward to try to assist the stricken teenager. What these dirt bags didn't account for is the fighting spirit of this feisty blonde who battled her attackers tooth and nail during their cowardly attack. It also seems that one or both of the suspects has been in custody on other matters (big surprise) and one can only hope that justice will be served to these cowardly predators. But as much as I would like to get my hands on these creeps myself, a large portion of my anger remains with the TTC and their cowardly driver who did nothing to help a young girl in need . I personally know this girl and her fine family who happen to be close friends of my buddy, Dr. Marvin Sazant and I wanted to tell her how proud we all are of her courage and spirit. With all the media being rightfully given to the tragic tales of human trafficking, I hope that the police give equal investigative time to the lurid behind the scenes practices of the strip joint industry. A number of years back when I did a couple of features on the escort and stripper industries for Canada Free Press and later the Toronto Sun, I certainly saw and reported on some very serious practices in that industry. Firstly I know of certain well known and influential strip joint owners, who sent representatives to Eastern Europe to recruit young ladies in desperate need of money and freedom to come to Canada to learn to dance at the non-existent Etobicoke School of Dance. But as it turns out, the only dance moves these girls mastered were the pole slides and panty pulls of the stripper's stage and VIP rooms. After being worked 6 to 7 days a week at this profession, the girls were driven back to an old house out of town where they lived on fast food and slept on the urine stained mattresses supplied by their employers. Another fact on how prevalent pimps are in the stripper industry: Just hang out at a club an hour before closing and you'll witness groups of young men drive up in their luxury SUVs and cars and wait for their "girlfriends" to come out and hand over the lion’s share of their monies earned. I really do hope that the police have the manpower to tackle these social atrocities as prevalent and serious as those in the related hooker and escort industries. So it looks like yet another Hollywood limousine liberal has opened her big mouth and let all the flies out. Hollywood actress Sharon Stone made a comment at the Dubai Film Festival that it pains her to know of the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths in the war torn country and is saddened that the media’s attention has instead highlighted the 4,000 US soldiers that have perished in the action since the 2003 invasion. Why doesn't someone tell this woman that the overwhelming majority of the Iraqi deaths have come at the hands of their own people locked in a crazy Muslim civil war between Shiites and Sunnis? Most of the American and coalition forces that have perished did so in trying to bring order and stability to the region racked with not only religious but cultural clashes. Stone claims to be in the region to find answers to the conflicts, which she feels are being obscured by the American media. I just know that the average Iraqi feels solace that this American actress who came to world attention in film by opening her legs in Basic Instinct so sincerely feels their pain while attending movie premieres and being chauffeured about in a limo from her 5 star hotel and back. As intriguing as I find Miss Stone’s poignant comments to be , personally I'm still awaiting Shecky Green’s vision of the Palestinian question.
