TORONTO: B'nai Brith Canada has welcomed the elimination of arch-terrorist Osama Bin Laden by US forces, calling it a decisive strike to a global terror network that threatens the entire free world, including Canada.
"President Obama must be commended for ordering this decisive strike as part of the steadfast resolve to fight international terrorism that he and his predecessor, President Bush, have exhibited." said Frank Dimant, CEO of B'nai Brith Canada. "As we have seen in the case of Israel, a sister democracy threatened daily by terrorist groups and their sponsors overseas, it is necessary to take action to neutralize terrorism at its source. Hamas and Hezbollah should take note from Osama Bin Laden's fate that strikes against the leaders of terror entities are seen as a necessary strategy the world over.
"For the families of the Canadian victims of 9/11, and the families of victims everywhere whose lives have been devastated by Osama Bin Laden and his ilk, we hope that this news will give them a sense that there has been some measure of justice.
"We commend our brave Canadian Armed Forces who are serving on the frontlines of the war against terror abroad, and note that here on Canadian soil we must not let down our guard since Canada remains on the hit list of Bin Laden's willing successors."
