I am one who had to go through incapable government procedures to become a legal resident of this magnificent country - the (former) beacon of freedom and justice in the world. I see talking heads, professors and government geniuses analyzing and trying to "comprehensively" fix the problem of illegal immigration with no results. We have illegals crossing the borders, visitors overstaying visas, people trying to share the American Dream by ignoring the laws of the land. Politicians are talking about the problem, but not fixing it, making it worse, a result of the typical government bureaucracy incapable of running anything right.
What is the problem?
  1. Millions of illegals in US
  2. Government inefficiency
  3. Lack of proper IDs and tracking
  4. Law enforcement crippled
  5. Illegals, Voter Fraud

Some background

President Reagan realized that there is an immigration problem and he tried to fix it by issuing amnesty in hope that it would resolve the existing illegal residents' problem and set the base for proper processing of future immigrants, temporary workers and those aspiring to become citizens. He did the right thing, but then “mighty” government bureaucrats took over and screwed anything they could – unreasonable delays, complicated procedures, typical government “efficiency” unmatched even by Communist countries. It was back to “normal.” People figured that it was easier to overstay their visas, cross the border illegally and blend in. Not too difficult to “disappear” and find some work.

Why do people want to come to America? They are yearning for freedom, better living standard and the difference in the currency value. A professor from Eastern Europe or Mexico can earn here more in $$ working in menial jobs, driving taxis, than back home as a professional. Work for few years in the U.S., save some money, send some home and return to a family that is better off. Some stay longer, away from the family, sacrificing for the loved ones at home. Most European countries manage the emigration and temporary working permits or visas within a few days or weeks. You have reason to come to their country, work, study, or stay. You apply, and in few days or weeks you will get the response, permission to stay. You come, register, do your thing and if done, go back home. Everything is legal, recorded, tracked, no problem. I went through the procedure coming from Czechoslovakia to IBM in Paris, France for training. No problems. Due to communist takeover after Dubchek’s Spring, I decided not to come back and tried to come to the USA. I had a cousin, an inventor, working for IBM in Endicott. When I enquired what is involved to emigrate to the U.S., he sent me pile of forms, applications, requiring Union approval, etc. It didn’t look like I would be able to go through the “procedure” in the time I had left. Here I am a robotics, computer, radio and professional engineer and the American government is not eager to take me. I heard that Canada gladly welcomes professionals, so I applied and in few weeks I had my immigrant visas ready. Within a few days, I landed job at IBM working as a technician, fixing IBM 360s and learning English. I ended up being the IBM Canada rep on the IBM Corporate Automation Council and received the highest IBM Outstanding Contribution Award from Chairman Frank Cary. I accomplished a few things that others said were impossible as a gratitude to Canada for giving me the chance to live and work in freedom. Then I met my American sweetheart. We got married, and there was no problem for her to get Canadian resident status and live in Canada. We have two boys. Her parents were asking us to move to to the U.S.to help with the family business. In 1985 we decided to move to America. I applied filling out a pile of forms, knowing it should be no problem, being a professional engineer, and legally married to a born American. we went through interviews at Toronto’s U.S .Consulate, waiting, waiting, waiting. A year went by, another six months--nothing. Finally my wife went to the consulate asking, " Are you giving us visas or not? I am moving home with my children and husband. Finally, I got my “Alien Resident” card and we moved. I never was on welfare, and went from arriving at this continent with one suitcase and a few dollars, to working for IBM, to building businesses and employing a number of people. This was my complicated legal path to being a legal resident of the U.S., and illustrates the typical situation. There are many who choose to overstay their visitor visas or come illegally, because it is the easier way, rather than wait forever for legalization from horribly inefficient government bureaucrats. And it works. All this at the time when relatives of U.S. citizens applying for visitor’s visas from Europe are being denied visitor’s visas after long waits at the embassies and payment of hefty fees. Pay the Coyote smuggling fee, get into U.S., you can be “lost” from government. The PROBLEM is inefficient government incapable of handling working permits, visas, citizenship status, issuing proper IDs and tracking them. People find the workaround around the problem and the result is what we have, massive illegal immigration and now Obama’s administration is happily feeding and fueling mostly undesirable immigrants in the hope of turning them into illegal voters, for Democrats to stay in power. The result is the Immigration Mess, with no clue who is who, and criminals and terrorists who have more rights than taxpayers.

The solution:

  1. The existing Illegals in the U.S. problem can be solved by establishing a procedure for Illegals to register. They could be given about one year to do so. That would give them working permits – visas, say for 3 years and the chance to apply for resident status. They will have to pay taxes and keep registering their whereabouts and employment. There could be a one time exemption – amnesty for those entered before, say 2010. Others would have to go back and apply from their home country. This is to avoid an influx of fresh illegals. It would be humane to give a chance to those who are here for a longer time, with families, actively involved in American life so long as they have no criminal records. This would be humane gesture and recognition of government for not handling the recording (ID) requirements in the past. Criminals, or those illegally crossing more than once, should be deported and barred from future working permits or resident visas.

Government to set up immigration offices in states, staffed with capable people, set up proper procedures and handle applications efficiently. Expanded Motor Vehicle offices can be used as a base for issuing and tracking the IDs of all temporary aliens and visitors. You got here – you have to register and notify where you are. Everybody has to have proper ID documents

Employers required to employ only workers with valid legal status or working permit. Otherwise heavy fines and penalties. States to enforce the law. There should be no one in the country that has no proper documentation.
  2. The situation with illegal immigration was caused by government failure to administer and enforce the proper system, regulations, after President Reagan’s amnesty. Somebody should be responsible and be penalized for the failure to properly implement the measures to rectify the situation we are in today, when illegals and criminals can kill innocent people, enter the country multiple times and hide in “sanctuary cities”.

In the past we have seen government departments being infested by incapable people, cronies of politicians. The result is the horrible inefficiency and problems plaguing our every day lives. Waste, mismanagement, cronyism, injustice are causing once great America slide to mediocracy and socialist hell. There is a need for a cleanup of government bureaucracy, bringing in people with business experience and work ethics, and removing the entrenched bureaucrats. Otherwise, there will be no end to the decline of this once great country.
  3. Cleanup government! No excuses for color, minority, sex orientation hiring incapable workers.
Bring manufacturing back to US – lower the taxes, bring in bright and capable workers.
Fix the bureaucracy, establish an ID system and ENFORCE IT!
Simple system of issuing working permits to foreigners:
Is there need for you in the U.S? Do you have a job offer?
Show documentation and apply for it, specify period of employment.
Government OFFICE verifies it (phone call, email) and if legit, issues the visas and/or working permit.
Applicant arrives at the workplace, registers with the OFFICE, works and pays taxes. If needs extension, applies and gets it granted or not. Stays or not.
If there is a need for a worker, he can apply for resident status and if demonstrating a benefit to the U.S., can apply for citizenship and stay here forever, with family, and contribute to making America Great Again! Classes of ID, could be combined with driver licenses, all required to register their whereabouts:
  1. Visitors – have passports and proper visas, could be issued visitor’s ID, red color.
  2. Temporary workers – issued temporary worker ID, orange color, showing expiration date.
  3. Temporary students – issued temporary student ID, yellow color, showing expiration date.
  4. Permanent residents – (Resident Aliens) issued or having “green cards” ID, green color, allowing life time residency. No U.S. passport or voting rights.
  5. U.S. citizens – issued citizen’s ID, blue color and U.S. passports if requested, eligible to vote in U.S. elections.
All ID cards have photo, finger prints, tracking (soc. Security) number and personal information allowing quick check of person’s status. Central registry verification available if needed.
  • Establish the laws that are reasonable and ENFORCE them! Now in the computer age, there is no problem of recording and tracking goods and people. If Amazon and Google can track my package at any time, there should be no problem to track people, their whereabouts, employment, legal status. It is time to issue ID cards besides driver licenses for those that do not drive, after verification of their legal status – citizen, resident alien or temporary worker. Have also verification system, where anyone can verify validity of the ID card if necessary and to avoid forged cards. If the companies and credit card companies can issue various cards, why can’t government issue the ID cards for all of the population? Problem with illegal voting will also be solved. The rest of the world has the system of personal IDs, the mighty USA has the problem? Let the law enforcement enforce the law!
  • Those who illegally entered the US before 2010 can be issued Permanent Resident status and ID, but NEVER allowed to gain citizenship as a “punishment”. Their children, born in the U.S can be eligible for citizenship, if parents have no criminal records.
  • Those who illegally entered the US after 2010, should be required to return to their home country and apply for legal ID and undergo proper procedure. Those with criminal records and multiple illegal entries need not apply.
  • Everyone on US soil should have proper ID according to their status. Only citizens are allowed to vote in U.S. elections, no problem with proper ID. Only people with proper ID allowed to hold jobs or attend institutions and obey U.S. laws. No ID? No right to stay or live in the U.S. Deportation.
I just can’t see why this cannot be implemented. Government screwed up and government needs to fix it. They can be humane and allow those who are here already (before 2010?) to stay, register, legalize their status HERE within few years, and come out of hiding. That's cheaper and more practical than trying to catch them all, deport and spend another few years to come back legally. Issue ID cards, register and track whereabouts and status of visitors and temporary workers. Require employers to employ only documented people. After a grace period, deport anyone not having proper ID and legalized status. The wall on the border can help, but it is not the SOLUTION to the illegals staying in the U.S. Tunnels and ladders can help to get around the wall. What is needed is to remove the attraction for people coming into the U.S. illegally, staying illegally and working illegally. Today’s technology allows to efficiently issue ID cards and to track them. Employers already have ID cards and badges. This will also solve the “racist voter registration problem.” Are you citizen? Do you have citizens ID or passport? No problem – you can vote in American elections – one time! Easy to track and put an end to fraudulent ballot stuffing. You don’t have citizen’s ID? You have no right to vote for government to represent or control you. Nothing racist about that! Looking back at my situation, if I had been issued visas to enter the U.S. way back, perhaps the U.S. could have benefited more by me employing more people and reducing the unemployment line. Now being an employer, rather than an employee, I am troubled by the FORWARD march of the U.S. towards the Communism under socialist Obama and democrats, shackling businesses with taxes, crippling regulations and idiotic bureaucracy. Isn’t there enough proof of what happens to be seen in the examples of the former Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela, N. Korea? There is the hope on the horizon that the next Republican President would follow in the steps of Ronald Reagan and make America Great Again for all of US! Replace lawyer politicians in government with engineers and businessmen. Fix the Immigration and voter fraud problem with a proper ID system and its enforcement. This is just a humble suggestion for solving the continuing “Immigration Problem” by someone who escaped from communism, persisted in making it into the “Land of the Free”, only to find that Obamunism is making it easy for illegals to land here and enjoy the freebies, while slowly converting the U.S. into a communist hellhole. "Whata Kontry!"
