WASHINGTON – Today, the National Right to Life Committee, the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, mourns the death of Edward J. Golden. Mr. Golden died on Friday, December 13. He was 80.

Mr. Golden was instrumental in the founding of New York State Right to Life, the state’s National Right to Life affiliate, and he was a guiding force behind National Right to Life during the organization’s formative years prior to and immediately after the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions legalizing abortion in the United States. Mr. Golden served on the National Right to Life Board of Directors 1970-1976 and was elected president of National Right to Life from June 1973-June 1974. The following may be attributed to Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life:
The motto of New York State Right to Life is “Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things.” We have lost a true friend and an extraordinary man who accomplished extraordinary things. Ed Golden was a stalwart and compassionate defender of the most vulnerable members of society. His dedication to the right-to-life cause helped guide the movement in the years leading up to the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions and his leadership in the immediate aftermath of those decisions proved invaluable. Our prayers and condolences go out to the Golden family and the entire New York right-to-life movement for the loss of this good and faithful servant.
