(QUEEN'S PARK) The McGuinty Liberal government today once again proved that they have next to no knowledge of the impacts that their “green energy” boondoggle is having on regular Ontario Families. Ontario citizens, having been forced to pay an additional 8% HST on their hydro bill, are facing a 40% Hydro rate hike over the course of the next several years.

More odious than the price increases are the manner in which they’ve been applied, noted Randy Hillier, the Member for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington, and a former electrician. “They told Ontario ‘We’ll install these smart meters, and you’ll save money if you play your cards right,’” said Hillier. “But it was all a ruse. You can’t save money, because you can’t move all of your electrical use to the middle of the night. You can’t save money, because they’ve raised the base price of power over and above what we used to pay.” “These so-called ‘smart-meters’ are an expensive way of pulling the wool over our eyes as Dalton McGuinty and his cronies reach ever-deeper into our pockets,” said Hillier. The smart meter program is estimated to cost over $10 Billion, at a time when the province has an annual deficit of $20 Billion. The cost will be recouped from ratepayers.
