The ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood drives Hamas atrocities and must end

After the horrendous attacks against Israeli civilians October 7, Israel made its first declaration of war in a half century. Israel’s previous declared wars: the Israeli War of Independence in 1948-49, the 1956 “Suez war,” the 1967 “Six Day War,” and the 1973 “Yom Kippur” War, were against Arab nations driven by nationalism and/or Arab Nationalism (“Bathiism”). War against Hamas is different. As described by the National Counterterrorism Center: “Hamas emerged in 1987 during the first Palestinian uprising, or Intifada, as an outgrowth of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestinian branch. The group is committed to armed resistance against Israel and the creation of an Islamic… state in Israel’s place. Hamas has been the de facto governing body in the Gaza Strip since 2007, when it ousted the Palestinian Authority from Power.”

It is noteworthy that Hamas was declared an Islamic terror organization by the United States and others over two decades ago. Hamas is committed to the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood, including the vision of a worldwide Islamic Caliphate under Sharia (Islamic) law. The ideology of Hamas is why Israel must destroy it.

The Muslim brotherhood was created in 1928 by Egyptian Islamic scholar Hassan al Banna after the newly elected President of Turkey, Kemal Atatürk, dissolved the Islamic Caliphate. The Muslim Brotherhood’s aim was to reestablish an Islamic Empire (Caliphate) under an Islamic leader (Caliph) Islamic law and reject foreign ideologies like Western Democracy. After Egyptian officers, led by Gabel Nasser, led a revolt against the British backed Egyptian King in 1952, they suppressed the Egyptian Muslim brotherhood and drove it into secrecy. Imprisoned along with other Muslim brotherhood leaders in 1954, Islamic scholar Sayyid Qutb spent years writing the seminal Islamist template “Signposts in the Road,” which clarified Islamic duties including Jihad.

The writings of Qutb had a similar impact on the Muslim Brotherhood and Islamist movement as Antonio Gramsci’s “Prison Notebooks” had on the future of communism. Qutb’s Signposts became a blueprint to undermine non-Islamist governments, destroy the state of Israel and bring Jihad to the world. The ideology eventually brought about the creation of al Qaeda, ISIL, and other such groups killing “infidels” to spread Islam and Sharia law.

The Muslim Brotherhood, driven by Qutb’s writings, demands that all land previously conquered by Islam are forever Islamic, including not only Israel but the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) and areas of Eastern Europe conquered by the Ottoman Empire. The Muslim Brotherhood demands the end of the nation states for the Islamic Caliphate, and rule by Sharia and not Democracy. Under Shariah law, non-Muslims (called “Dhimmis”) are legally treated as inferiors to Muslims. They must pay a special “Jizya” tax and must submit to the supremacy of Islam by having to hide non-Muslim religious symbols and seek permission to repair/build non-Muslim places of worship. An ex-Muslim Christian (or Jew) or missionary faces the death penalty, while conversion to Islam is encouraged and even coerced. Most are aware that women are made second class citizens. “Jihad” is not only an internal struggle, but a duty of Muslims to fight “infidels” to bring submission to Islam worldwide. Jews are held in contempt as “sons of apes and pigs” under Muslim brotherhood ideology, and Imams and Muslim Brotherhood leaders continue to spout this defamation.

When Hamas came to power in Gaza, they immediately implemented Sharia law. Just one 2021 AP story shows the ongoing discrimination that would not be tolerated by the western progressives who support Hamas over Israel: “Sharia Judicial Council, issued Sunday, says an unmarried woman may not travel without the permission of her “guardian,” which would usually refer to her father or another older male relative.” [see – AP--Hamas court says women need guardian’s approval to travel]

With Muslim Brotherhood ideology driving Hamas, we should not be surprised by the acceptance of rape, murder, burning of Jewish women and children

Hamas is open about it. Article 6 of the 1988 Hamas covenant calls for the complete annihilation of the Jewish State of Israel and replacement with the “banner of Islam over every inch of Palestine.” Article 13 claims: “There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility.” Article 7 exhorts: “The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.” Western media has completely ignored this vile racism and hatred. While President of Egypt, Mohammed Morsi openly called Jews “sons of apes and pigs” without a single protest in the West.

With Muslim Brotherhood ideology driving Hamas, we should not be surprised by the acceptance of rape, murder, burning of Jewish women and children on October 7.

Muslim Brotherhood ideology, particularly since the publication of Sayyid Qutb’s Signposts in the Road”, goes well beyond Gaza and Israel. It threatens stability of the region and world. In irony, it offers the greatest threat to those progressives who now seem to show the greatest support for Hamas against Israel in the West. Israel cannot allow Hamas to survive. It's time for the United States to take the lead on ending the despicable ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood.
