What did he say?

A Nation Of Sheep Will Beget A Government Of Wolves - Edward R. Murrow If you were taking a day or two off from the news, you may not have heard that famous “trust baby” and would-be free speech regulator, West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller make the following “off-script” comments during a Senate Committee Meeting:

“There's a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to FOX and to MSNBC: 'Out. Off. End. Goodbye.' It would be a big favor to political discourse; our ability to do our work here in Congress, and to the American people, to be able to talk with each other and have some faith in their government and more importantly, in their future."
We are not a nation of sheep and political arrogance shall not stand. Perhaps we might get the Senator’s attention with this brief discussion. Excuse me, but to which political discourse was he referring? As for his work in Congress what work would that be? We see no work being done ... at least out in the open, because the doors are always closed. Yet, I am so far still able to talk to anyone I want, thank you. As for “faith” in government, I hold that government under a respectable suspicion at all times. This was as our Founders devised and intended our system to be. What part of the First Amendment to the US Constitution does he not understand? It states very clearly what our freedoms are and what he and his ilk are prohibited from doing: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” But just for Senator Rockefeller, let us review its parts. This Amendment prohibits Senators and Representatives from doing certain things. They may not establish any religion. That precludes them demanding our worship of Big Government. They also may not prohibit the rest of us from exercising any religion that we may choose. We can worship as we choose. Whether it be the Most High God, or a cigar store statue, government must butt out! The same goes for my freedom of speech. Congress may not regulate what I say. They may not “protect me from myself.” They may not prevent me from allowing my mouth to overload my wallet. Members of Congress may not abridge free speech in any manner, not one whit. They may not prevent voices from being heard just because it inconveniences them. Sorry Congress, you must listen to “We The People.” We are not the “little people,” we are the boss. Or have you forgotten the lesson of November 2d so soon? In America, the individual is sovereign. From the tone of Senator Rockefeller’s comments, I doubt he ever knew that. Neither may Congress stop any printing press, any newspaper, or internet blog. Our Tea Party has every same right to assemble as Rockefeller’s Leftist and Progressive buddies did before the last election. Perhaps he missed those memos by James Madison and Alexander Hamilton. And, while we’re at it, Glenn Beck’s Assembly, Tea Party Assemblies and Conservative Assemblies always respect the land as much as they respect our rights; they clean-up after the event is over. They did not litter the National Mall as his pals did. Senator Rockefeller, like Senator Boxer, loves title, position, perquisites and power. I would demand that he respect ours. He stands for re-election in 2014. The People have much work to do in West Virginia. I cannot, for one cannot understand how a ne’er-do-well such as Senator Rockefeller ever got elected to the Senate from West Virginia, where families work hard for their living and millionaires are uncommon. How does this man, worth an estimated $200 Million, even pretend to understand the problems of the working man. But, there he is, calling someone rich who makes over $250,000 per year and wanting to raise their taxes? He has never had to worry about paying a bill, or making a family budget. He has never run a business. Senator Rockefeller stands before the miner and the logger and vows to support their interests and their livelihood on one hand, while kowtowing to environmental groups on the other. I don’t get it. He uses money as a tool of free speech when it comes to his re-election media, but opposes our rights to watch Fox News and receive both sides of the issue. So, after Senator Rockefeller’s recent disgraceful, display of elitist attitude toward controlling speech, I found some very interesting information from a public source. The citizens of West Virginia are hardworking, traditional people with a sense of charity and fairness. They deserve down to earth representation not an Progressive Overlord. Senator Jay Rockefeller has very high reported ratings by the following very liberal organizations: American Civil Liberties Union - 67 Americans for Democratic Action - 100 National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League - 75 National Parent Teacher Association - 100 Service Employees International Union - 77 League of Conservation Voters - 80 It is stretches my imagination to think that Senator Rockefeller has very much in common with the average West Virginian. Of course, West Virginians could be happy with Senator Rockefeller. If that’s the case, more power to them. Ironically, Senator Rockefeller’s statements seem pointed toward reducing that power.
