Conservatives comprise the largest ideological group in the U.S.

Conservatives Had Better Get A Leader Soon

NewsMax.com Newsfront dated June21, 2009, "Talk Radio Publisher Harrison: Dramatic Changes Ahead" by: Jim Meyers dated June 19, 2009:
(Excerpts) "Michael Harrison, founder and publisher of Talkers magazine, tells Newsmax that a revolution is underway in the media that will soon fundamentally change the way Americans get information. And Harrison, a political independent, sees a clear explanation why talk radio draws huge conservative audiences.

He notes that conservatives like talk radio because they have a "more definable state of mind" and feel the rest of the media is too liberal and "wishy-washy." They also are one of the nation’s largest demographic groups. A recent Gallup poll found that conservatives comprise the largest ideological group in the U.S., with nearly twice as many Americans saying they are conservatives as those claiming to be liberal." (Emphasis added.)
Reading just those few short lines I was encouraged to feel that all that I have been saying lately about conservatives needing to step up and assert themselves is finally getting to the right people. Mr. Harrison is described as being a “political independent” or one of those in between people that need to be pushed to the right. But apparently he has already figured that out for himself and he is just waiting for a bona fide leader to appear. There are so many outstanding conservatives in this country that without much difficulty, a baker’s dozen could be identified that could take the reins of conservatism and make it America’s mantra of salvation. But all the pockets of conservatism must come together as one strong governing force. The country’s welfare must come first. The elections of 2010 are only 18 months away. It scares me to think of how much more damage Obama can do to what’s left of our country in 18 more months as long as he has the liberal Democrat Congress and the courts at his mercy, using more and more of not only our tax dollars, but all that he can confiscate and redistribute to the “work-not’s.” Something else that seems to be getting to the right people as mentioned above, is the knowledge of this Administration and its tight-fisted controls over the Congress and our entire governmental operations. Obama may have picked for his Cabinet and personal aides, personalities that were not very favorable with the general public; tax cheats, anti-America and anti-Christian personages, many of whom are downright unlikeable. But one can grudgingly admire their fierce loyalty to the man when they prostrate themselves in his shadows. Much the same can be said for the cultish followers who managed to overcome all odds and provide the margins that made him our currently elected president, legal or not. But the honeymoon may be coming to a close. Whether it be as a result of Obama’s reckless and profligate spending; sinking giant corporations by government seizure or “damn the people” attitude of forcing socialist/Marxism into the country’s life-style; but probably some of each. A Headline Story on NewsMax.com on June 22, 2009 titled “Polls: 'Strong Disapproval' of Obama Growing” by Jim Meyers shows Obama’s “Strongly disapprove” ratings of the president’s presidential performance has for the first time in his term since election increased to 34 percent and surpassed his “Strongly approve” ratings of 33 percent in the most recent Rasmussen poll. Though at first glance a slim one percent difference between the plus and negative factors doesn’t cause any great shivers, it is the continuing of the downward trend in the positive factors that cause concern. That approval number of 33 is down from the 60’s in the early days of his administration, reflecting a significant downturn in faith in performance. While Obama’s overall ratings are still relatively high, the downward trend must give the Administration pause and a bit of anxiety in the falling favorable numbers and concurrent rise in unfavorables. In other areas where trust in performance is measured, only 46 percent of respondents think Obama is doing an excellent or good job with the economy. And worse, just 30 percent say they trust Obama to handle the economic crisis. 45 percent of voters trust the Republicans more to handle the economy, while 39 percent trust the Democrats more. Not only Obama has seen a decline in personal approvals, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid personal favorability numbers are dropping precipitously, Reid’s going to a very low percent of only 27 percent favorable while Pelosi was not much farther ahead with a dim 34 favorable percentage. Should these numbers continue in their current downward direction it would bring on some panic to the liberal Democrats 18 months from now in the General Elections. Particularly if one other statistical trend should not only continue but expand, and that is the numbers for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell whose favorability percentage was slightly higher than his unfavorability; but the direction in going up was the touchstone of that measure. Conservatives should take heart from these numbers and get their act together. But time’s a-wastin’.
