Washington,DC- If President Barack Obama didn’t hear the thousands who swarmed the Capitol today, then he needs to have his ears checked.
You could have heard the crowd citing the Pledge of Allegiance and singing The Stars & Stripes clear across the Potomac. With voices raised in unison, the singing of the patriots who came in response to Rep Michel Bachmann’s “Emergency House Call”, were as worthy of hearing as Miley Cyrus at the Verizon Center the same night the GOP reclaimed the states of New Jersey and Virginia.
“Tea Party” members representing all 50 states were there and their buses dominated the capitol’s parking.
They hitched rides with their neighbours, and came by train, plane and bus. Such was their determination to make their voices heard against the now more than trillion-dollar health care bill.
“Kill the bill!” “Can you hear us now?” was the echoing chorus from the throngs.
At one point when “Can you hear us now?” was at its loudest, bureaucrats and hangers on from inside the Capitol Building watching the crowd from the upper balcony, took their leave in unison.
With health legislation headed toward a possible Saturday vote, Obama had made a rare visit to the daily press briefing to gloat that the American Medical Association and AARP had just endorsed the health care plan.
Deafening cheers followed Bachmann who said of the Democrats: “They’re going to listen. The biggest voice in the United States is yours.”
Actors Jon Voight and John Ratzenberger found popularity with the crowds. Ratzenberger spoke of the socialism creeping in with the Obama administration. The outspoken Voight accused the Obama administration of “radical Chicago tactics”.
But no one got louder cheers than popular radio talk show host Mark Levin, who was welcomed by chants of “Mark!” “Mark!” “Mark!”
“The press that is here should know that this is about Liberty,” Levin said.
And liberty is what Americans won’t let Obama and the Dems take away no matter what.
Today’s Emergency House Call rally was distinguished by being the first Tea Party rally officially sanctioned by House Republicans.
Today’s massive rally also stood apart as the ultimate American Reality Show writ large.
Unlike the rallies of the far left which lean heavily on street theatre, these American patriots are real.
They want their country back.
