A Public Inquiry Needed

The Toronto Star and CBC betray the Canadian Public

Surely one of the key principles of the mass pubic media is to tell the citizens of Canada all of the facts and not engage in crass suppression or distortion of the truth. Previously, I wrote deploring the campaign waged by the Star and most of its journalists about the supposed criminal conspiracy of the Conservative government to suppress reports that Canadian troops had turned over Afghan prisoners to the Afghan prison system knowing that they would be tortured.

In this observer’s view it is not solely a coincidence of similar news stories that causes the Star, other liberal mass media and particularly the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) to pile on their misleading propaganda in concert. It is also a behind the scene well coordinated effort to sway the public to support the Liberal Party. If the current polls are correct, always questionable, their mass attack may be working. Another nasty political ploy is now being mounted against the truth by the publicly funded CBC. This game is to hype the supposed death of democracy because of a picayune 22-day prorogation of parliament by the Harper government. Who is kidding who? Most of the public is breathing a welcome sigh of relief from the insane antics occurring in a parliament inhabited by the likes of the Bloc Quebecois, the NDP and weird “Iggy the Wibble-Wobbler” who can’t keep his story straight on anything. This current ploy is especially incongruous is the light of the Liberal media’s support of the phony Liberal, NDP, and Bloc Quebecois unholy “coalition” of just 14 months ago when they tried to unseat the newly elected Harper minority government. The affront and disrespect for the Canadian voter at that time was astounding. Not one Canadian outside of Quebec voted for the Nation of Quebec’s representation in parliament. How can these people now talk about destroying parliamentary democracy? We still don’t know what deal was made to get the Bloc to play along. The Toronto Star is a private enterprise; they can play any game they can get away with provided they do not intentionally spread false news. However, the CBC is totally off-base because they are paid by the general taxpayers to provide accurate and trustworthy news. Unfortunately, the CBC has been a public mouthpiece for the Liberals since Mike Pearson and Pierre Elliott Trudeau. It is time for the CBC to be broken up and privatized. A first step is for the government to call for a full Public Enquiry into these issues.

The Problem of a predominant Liberal-oriented Media

For decades our political debate has been stilted with the same liberal-oriented pundits appearing again and again, year after year. Nothing can be debated fully unless it is very carefully maneuvered to avoid subjects that infringe on Liberal policy. It is absolutely necessary to halt this mass media propaganda machine. Notice how we are manipulated. Notice that the media always tells us what the principle concerns of Canadians are as elections near. Notice that their polls always announce our answers to their prepared lists of questions. Notice that such polls never mention vital concerns such as immigration, citizenship rules and special laws for minorities. Do we ever hear of our concerns about the funding of thousands of racial, ethnic and national linguistic groups? When did you last hear of a poll asking about our views on costly enforced language laws that affect the job opportunities of the vast majority of Canadians, or Quebec’s anti-English activities?
