Rob Ford, George Smitherman, incredibly shrinking provincial Liberals

In Canada, the times they are a changin’

Or at least they appear to be. If three recent events are any indication, Canadians seem to be moving to the right. Perhaps this is an aberration; it’s too early to tell. On the other hand it could be a preview of things to come. In early August, as the MV Sun Sea was making its way to the west coast carrying 492 Tamil “refugees”, a poll was conducted by Leger Marketing. Fifteen hundred Canadians were asked whether the Tamils should be allowed to come into Canada or whether the ship should be turned away. In Canada, where tolerance and diversity is worshipped as a deity, 60% of respondents told the pollster that the ship should be kept from reaching Canadian shores.

What was shocking about the poll was the fact that over half (52%) of those who were in favour of not allowing the Tamils to come to Canada identified themselves as NDP supporters. Even a significant amount of dippers seem to be moving to the right. Seventy-four per cent of respondents who thought the ship should be turned back said they support the Conservatives while less than half (49%) of Liberals were in favour of not letting the Tamils reach Canada’s shore. The poll is an indication that a majority of Canadians are fed up with the country being such a soft touch for those who seek a quick entry into Canada. They are sick of Liberal Party politicians appearing at Tamil rallies, where flags of the Tamil Tigers, an organization that has been declared a terrorist group in Canada, are proudly flown. While not all of the 492 passengers on the ship will be found to be terrorists, there is no doubt that some of them are. They are coming to Canada because we’re an easy mark and they will have years to remain in the country and raise funds for their terrorist group. And in Ontario, for the first time in years, a poll puts the Progressive Conservatives ahead of the Liberals who have been in power since 2003. Although the Conservatives only lead by a point that is well within the poll’s margin of error, it does not bode well for Premier Dalton McGuinty.

64% of respondents think that the Liberals have been around too long

This poll also indicates that 64% of respondents think that the Liberals have been around too long. And 68% of those surveyed think that the government of Ontario is going in the wrong direction. People are fed up with the tax-and-spend government that says they won’t increase taxes just before they impose a major tax increase. The turning point was probably the “eco tax” that was imposed on thousands of products with no notice to the taxpayers. It was such a fiasco that the government was forced to withdraw it. In Ontario, we’re all waiting for it to come back is what we’re doing. It’s hard to believe that the party of Mike Harris is poised to make a comeback. What is perhaps even more surprising is that the poll revealed that more Ontarians (33%) trust PC leader Tim Hudak than trust Premier Dalton McGuinty (27%). And Hudak can still take solace in the fact that if he was ever arrested in the province it would be highly unlikely that he would ever be picked out in a lineup. And speaking of arrests, nowhere is this change more evident than in Toronto. If Canada is indeed a commie state, then the city of Toronto is the Kremlin. Mayoral candidate Rob Ford has had what is described in the liberal media as a couple of bad weeks. Ford is the one candidate that the people can count on to use their tax money wisely. When the Tamil ship arrived, Ford said that the city has enough problems providing for the people that are here now; we don’t need any more. It was true, but truth does not trump political correctness. The lefties went berserk. Then Ford was asked by a reporter about being charged with possession of marijuana years ago in Florida. He denied it. Then he came forward and said that he was charged in that state with failing to take a breathalyzer test. It turned out that he was charged with both DUI and possession of marijuana. The drug charge was dropped and he pleaded no contest to the DUI and received a fine and community service. At least the fudging about what happened in Florida should have brought him down. But it didn’t. A poll taken after his Tamil boat people remark and the controversy over criminal charges showed that he went up in the polls. The latest one has him up 11% over his closest rival, George Smitherman. And it was during this time that the incredibly shrinking provincial Liberals chose to announce that they were going to go all out to help former cabinet minister Smitherman.

The more dirt that is thrown at Ford, the higher up in the polls he goes

The more dirt that is thrown at Ford, the higher up in the polls he goes. This shows that Torontonians are totally fed up with silly spending antics of the current leftwing government. A lot of people may not want to be in a car with Ford, or have him coach their kids’ football team, but they trust him not to spend their hard earned money on every trendy leftwing cause that’s out there. We simply can’t afford it. These things should please those Canadians who identify their country as not being the United States. While Barack Obama is turning the U.S. into a union workers paradise, Canada is moving in the other direction.
