Distractions

Lately, it may have been noted this column has been sporadically written and printed by my esteemed publishers. This is my fault, not theirs. Due to issues beyond my control having to do with health and welfare, I've missed deadlines and therefore not been acceptable for timely publication. This is caused by a combination of not being able to satisfy the needs of my publishers and my personal inability to produce.
Because of the distractions, my attention's been diverted, displaced and misdirected by outside forces without control. This is different from the fact our governmental process has been directed away from issues most important to the health of the American Republican. We're being purposely diverted from issues and their analysis by the forces responsible for the direction of this nation. Fast and Furious is a matter indicating the symptoms of the disease, not the actual disease itself. It's a result of an administration believing itself above the law and thus, above and beyond the right of the people to know how their public business is conducted. The state of the economy in this nation is being removed from view by controversy designed by both parties to window dress their positions and better position themselves for future gains over the opposition.

This is politics. The simple and clear is placed behind a gauzy curtain and then lighted complementarily so as to appear something it isn't. Politicians do this to their best advantage every day of the year. They wouldn't know how to express the truth, and probably wouldn't tell the truth even if it was the best tactic to win a debate. They MUST feel they control all aspects of the contest and any failure to do so make them ill at ease. The presentation of their apparent power is more important to them than anything else. We must ask regularly: what is most important to the American nation? Is it a strong central government that protects the American people; or is it to assure a strong central government to be served BY the people? Are we the people known for their personal liberties constrained by a common sense of community and personal participation in the direction of government; or are our personal liberties meant to be constrained by government? Should government be a matter of the elected representatives in Congress following the commands and direction of the people elected them: or should the people be responsive to the direction of the members of government considering themselves to be superior to the people and thus not necessarily responsive to those same people’s direction? Does any one side of the pyramidal structure of a tripartite government have any more powerful than either of the two complementary sides? Or are they not truly complementary and therefore antagonistic to one another? Was this antagonism a result of misunderstanding or is it a result of a sinister plan to usurp the power of the people to control their own destiny? In the sense that an Executive Administration was once commanded by the Constitution to be the enforcement arm of the Congress' legislative mandate to create law and order; have we strayed and allowed for the reality of a nation of men versus a nation of laws? Has this policy grown from the apathy of the electorate too busy growing within itself to note personal liberties were being diminished by power-brokers? When did we become enamored of the theory of government and move away from the practicality of personal involvement in it? What are our issues? Are they based in the reality of our history, of our disassociation with a despotic monarch, unjustly commanding compliance while imperiously ruling by edict or are we a free people failing to recognize our disinterest in public political matters is moving us slowly and near inexorably toward a return to that despotism? In any illness, whether physical or metaphorical, it's easy to treat the symptom while overlooking the root cause of the disease. It's also the reason the disease can become pandemic and thus, eventually nation killing. Look past the symptoms and fight the disease. Get involved-NOW! Thanks for listening
